Sooo...the summer Spider season is starting again

We have loads of spiders in our fence at the moment. These were the biggest I saw from a month ago although they have gone AWOL since, possibly eaten by birds.

I was rock climbing out in the Welsh countryside a couple weeks ago. Half way up a cliff only to find a 2" false widow staring me in the face, right where the next decent handhold was.

Nope
Nope
Nope
Nope

I climbed down again.

Unless it had been on the steroids, it wasn't a false widow. They don't get anywhere near that size.

I let this one stay in, then it disappeared. Told my mother she'll be eating it in her sleep.

I've had spiders like the op's come in the house, I live in area surrounded by fields... I just name them, tell them to keep away from my feet and then just try not to stand on them, they usually run towards you if you tap the floor near them, the rest of the time they're usually hiding in some hole or under the seats :)

Honestly they're pretty much harmless, they just come in out of the rain/machinery on fields etc. I used to pick them up on my hands and put them outside after a while but I don't anymore as I'm worried I'll hurt them trying to get them to go on my hand (it's not small or thin anymore).

I have been known to give them a toilet paper 'ladder' out of the bath too :)

I had one that size in my bedroom years ago just poke its legs out from under my tv unit.

Just enough movement to get your attention you know.

Next thing the beast is running full pelt towards me! Luckily I browsing the Argos catalogue at the time and threw it towards the little git.

It died looking at the gardening section....

Nowadays I'd probably end up throwing my laptop. :o

oh dear, indeed it is that time of year again, always ruins me having to buy and refurnish all these new houses that keep mysteriously burning down on me, and don't get me started on the insurance premiums.

gonna have to move somewhere colder where there aint no spiders

Old break barrel air pistol and some damp sand, the bits are easily vacuumed up, this method also works with flies and is safer than a fly spray flame thrower and kinder than entombing in a gf's hairspray.

^that is absolutely genius sir, well done. sounds cleaner than my wd40 to gloop em down followed by nearest heavy object of choice method.

*goes on ebay to find an old air pistol*

I really don't understand how grown men can be frightened of UK spiders.
They don't even bother my daughter and she's a proper girl.

There's not a lot in this world that I am afraid of, but for some god forsaken reason, spiders just freak me the No swearing - Davey out. The ones that are the size of a 5 pence coin I don't have a problem with. I could happily leave them be. The bigger ones, the ones that can be as big as the circumference of a pint glass, just GTFO please! I could not sleep in my room knowing that monster is there, waiting until my guard is down before it makes its move.

The worse thing is, I've not had a large one in my room in a while, which usually means the next one is due soon...

Even my wife isn't bothered by them.
A couple of weeks ago she pointed out a monster right above our heads in the lampshade and it had built a web but a few days later I did remove him because I don't think he would have had much luck there.
Funnily enough me, the wife and eldest daughter have zero fear of them but the youngest daughter is petrified even though she was brought up like the eldest.

Are those definitely False Widows and not Brown Widows?

Pretty awesome though :) I really don't understand why folks are so scared of spiders. It's not like humans are their food source :)
