Why 'Watch Dogs' Is Bad News For AMD Users -- And Potentially The Entire PC Gaming Ecosystem

Well....
He's clearly trolling, and he's also clearly won lol.

Bumhug+crew though, are not trolling. They're obsessed with price and love to bring it up in most arguments, you know...how cheap their cards were, how expensive other cards are (that perform equally, faster, slower)

Yes,but he brought it up this thread first, which is the relevant point though, and me and my mate have had my own niggles and faults though too. Heck I could ask around my other mates who have Kepler cards to see if they have any problems too,but honestly at any one point you can find issues for both.

Thats going back years.

But why it irks me sooo much,is that I have had experience of workin with bloody Apple fantards who look down on anyone who has a Android phone as being a cheaptard or the Apple laptops/desktops/OS X are the bestest and only cheapskates go for the inferior windows PCs. I don't want an iPhone or a Mac FFS,whatever they cost and they still could not understand.I honestly wanted to hit some of them with a massive fish.

Price for the majority of the world is a concern when looking to buy something. It's no different here. Nvidia get most of there overpriced sales from people that only know the Nvidia brand. If i was a millionaire i still would not buy a 2 x Titan Black over 2 x 290x as to me it makes no sense as i would not be gaining anything over 2 x 290x and if ram was a concern then i would still cheap out on 290x 8gb. Nvidia will only make sense to me when they can perform the same at a close price.

Some people just work on logic and to me Nvidia make less sense than AMD at certain price points. Pay more for Nvidia and get the same these days. Mantle in the next year is most likely going to become the best feature that both brands have and i bet AMD are still cheaper.

Why would you compare titan blacks vs a 290x and not a TI btw Or does it suit your purpose better?

I'd also be very surprised to see both brands having mantle but lets see :)

Value is subjective, being it's down to the person buying whether it's worth the price they paid. I don't actually care, hence why i don't judge people on what they buy, or how expensive/cheap it is. Rather short sighted claiming Nvidia get their sales from people who know no different, insulting even.

If i was rich i would be gaming at very high resolution and 4gb is the minimum if you ask me. Gtx780 6gb is to slow as you go up in resolution. The best is 290x v ti core which for 6gb is titan black.

I don't get how anyone with common sense can agree with what MMJ_UK said. Well maybe Lambchop but his signature says it all. The funny thing is this is a Watchdogs thread and the majority of people having the best experience are using Amd in there Ps4 and Xboxone which in some PC owners eye's is like being on the dole when it comes to gaming.

This is what one of the OcUK store people said:

Yup I said it would be interesting becuase their is no perfect brand, no perfect side. I wasn't implying you AMD fans would be surprised or Nvidia you'd be shocked. Just that it's funny when you read all these threads and bickering when in reality when it comes to reliability both are as good (or bad) as eachother.

As I used to explain to customers all the time. Spending more doesn't guarantee no faults. The faster these things go the more heat they produce Heat and electricity are not best friends. Things can break. And most importantly cap whine can exist for anything with a capacitor in it.

The first part is worth reading, and I agree with him.

The thing is you just need to do your research and choose what is best for you.

If you were rich and wanted 4k+ and were worried about Vram you would be better with the 8GB 290x's I'd pretty sure if since your hypothetically rich and wanting max looks the 4GB in a multiple card set up would also be a stumbling block

Well said Cat

Of course you would ;)
Suits your case perfectly....I'll wait till all the 8gb cards are sold out and claim if i was a millionaire i would only only play on 5x4k surround. 4Gb wont be enough then ;)

I've had problems with both, and i stand by my statement that mmj was trolling. Sorry you've bitten, he's won.

It's not short sighted at all as i am always schooling people that think the only gaming gpu brand is Nvidia. I know personally as friends 2 pc gamers who know there stuff but i know many people that only know Nvidia when it comes to Gpu's. Brand is a big selling point. Some people i know think AMD are a cpu company only. Don't underestimate Brand power. Even in my online friends list there seems to be a lack of knowledge.

It suits what i would do not my point. You only have to look around to know that the 512 bus is worth having at high resolution and 3gb is not enough. Kapp will tell you with 4 cards 4gb is not enough or pushing it.

I feel pretty cheated paying X amount more for the same or less.

Funny you should say this, I remember paying something like £1050 for my two 780's. Not once have I ever sat and thought about the price. At the time they were the cards I wanted and that's what they cost. Price isn't the be all and end all for everyone.
It's good that you have got great performance for what you were willing to spend at this time, but it doesn't make my cards or Greg's cards any worse because they cost more.

Thats you, i'm expressing how i feel. Its that which started the moving around of Goal Posts none sense.

So you admit 4GB isnt enough yet there your cards of choice vs 6GB card

If i had a massive budget i would buy hundreds of the cards and bin them, but that's me.
Don't care for gaming. Flood the MM with cheap cards :D

@real, ok mate ;) Don't care about brands, and it is short sighted.

Don't twist his words :p He's obviously on about buying the limited run 8gb cards...duhh!! :D

If i was going 4 way sure more ram is needed and i think the games are starting to show that. So again 4 x 290x 8gb is cheaper.

If i was that rich though you can bet i would not have to choose and would have at least 2 towers with the best from each as games these days are usually suited to either brand.

I have seen this TBH,and I think it was not helped by the ATI brand being dropped for AMD graphics branding, since people don't always realise they are the same.

Edit!!

Its not also helped by the fact that many review sites are in the US.

The relative pricing for one,has at times been quite different to the UK.

So if someone looks at a US based build guide,it might warp things.

For example,Corsair PSUs quite frequently were priced dumped in the US market.

Fully agree with the two tower idea , I dont like it but it seems the gap between one vender vs another in certain games is only widening

With Watchdogs needing 3GB for ultra isnt it? at 1080p i really cant see even 4GB being enough at 4k+

Hopefully Either next gen cards come out with 8-10gb of Vram or Dev's sort this Vram usage out

Years ago, not currently.
AMD's gaming brand has been everywhere, you just have to look at some of these signatures....(Tommy's changes, but still :D) to get an idea on what they've been doing. Very strong, very clear. AMD is for gaming.

I suppose, but if Nvidia had stronger branding already,it would be AMD trying to displace that from people's memory.

Personally,I think the consoles might be able to help AMD in the PR stakes more,if they sell that angle properly.

With Watchdogs Vram is the least of there worries. It's going to be interesting to see what is required to run this game at 4k.
