Hey guys

Has anyone used a reliable, reasonably priced service to transport pets from around the world back to the UK when relocating home?

I've been trying to find a service to bring my 2 cats back with me from Dubai but so far the prices quoted are extortionate (3,000 pounds for 2 cats).

I was expecting some more like 500 per pet but am stumped.

I transported my cat from Australia to the UK and back. It is expensive (MUCH more than for a person..) and you have to get all the vet work done at the right time (some things may need to be done up to 6months before travel). What actual work you need done depends on the customs/quarantine rules of the country you are entering. Luckily I'm a vet and had an export vet working at my clinic, so it was easier/cheaper for that side of things.

I used Animal Airlines to get my cat back to Australia from the UK and they were great. Used All Animal Transport from AU - UK, but that's not much help unless you're going to Australia..

Just as an idea of costs for his return trip (LHR - MEL)

- Flight LHR-MEL £800 (Qantas 21hr flight, stop over in Dubai, no change of aircraft), MEL-BNE $300AUD (Jetstar)
- Vet fees (approx.. mine was obviously discounted as I did most of it myself) £300
- DEFRA fees - can't remember exactly.. £1-200
- Quarantine fees in MEL $1500AUD

So this all added up to approximately £2500. I don't have all the docs on me, but it was probably a little more than that when you add in all the incidentals, travel, etc.. And this was ONE WAY, coming from AU-UK was a little cheaper as there was no quarantine, but still, our personal flights to the UK from AU were only $500AUD/£280 each (one way)..

My parents have done this with their two cats a few times; once from Saudi to Canada, Canada to UK, UK to Australia and just last week Australia back to UK. As above, it's very expensive, think they said bringing them back to the UK cost them about $4,000AUD. They used a company called Jet Pets.

Christ, looks like I'm screwed then. I will have to bite the bullet (literally, if I suggest to my wife we leave the cats there!)

I can't believe how expensive it is.

Thanks anyway

Call BA and ask them, I don't see why you need to use a 'broker' as such as BA can do this directly.

Because they need to be looked after at each stop and clear through customs etc. The airline won't do that, their job is over once the plane reaches the gate.
