So I rented a 'Focus or similar'...

I love how people who have bought these cars assumed they were some sort of super car killer and now try to justify their purchase when in reality, my ship anchor E60 will out handle it and provide more power and comfort to boot ;)

It outsold the Supra in <2 months

Errr lol? The Supra was pitched as a near-supercar at the time. Thats like saying the Deawoo Matiz is a sales success because it outsold the Merc S Class.

It's outsold it because it's a different car and loads cheaper.

Just not cheap enough.

That interior is horrific.

From the OP (as I haven't driven one) it isn't as smooth a car as it should be, in term of gear changes, ride, etc. and the interior is awful too. The similarities to the FTO are everywhere to be seen. It's quite nice from the outside, not powerful enough and too expensive for what you get.

Failing to see an up side.

Its a newer S2000 with less power and skinnier tyres to make up for it. Also the roof is stuck closed.

I don't really get the FTO comparisons if i'm honest. It had 4 seats, fwd, a v6 and for the time a reasonable interior. They weren't actually slow at all for what they were if you bought a mivec car with a manual box - The FTO's real problem was that people perceived it to be competing with 200sx's and toyota MR2's which had a turbo they could then go out and turn up the boost on whereas the mitsubishi had little to no tuning potential.

Wow, they don't give out medals for being pedantic you know ;)

If your read the rest of the quote (you know the bit you cut off so your could reply to it out of context) it states that the GT-86 is "doing Celica/Prelude/200SX numbers" which were similarly priced/positioned cars that were sales successes, the reference to the Supra was obviously because the Supra was not a sales success and to help point out that the GT-86 is.

That clock looks the same as my 2003 Impreza one... :p They obviously had some left over and needed a car to put them in. Still, it displays the time as well as any other? :)

It looks like the LS400 one too, albeit reversed:

I had a test drive in a GT86 a couple of weeks ago, it was ok.

Not 23.5k ok though which is what I was quoted for a new one.

For me, its just hugely over priced, it should be in the high teens RRP and nowhere near the 25 grand mark.

Unless there are 6" spikes of death on the dash, I really couldn't care less about clocks and dial aesthetics, as long as they make sense and work.

I guess I am in the minority, though :p

I suspect that when it was originally pitched the finished product would have been sub £20k, then forex bumped it into uncomfortable levels

Oh. So I am actually the only person in the universe who likes the interior of the '86? Okay then.

Must be because you are all used to drowning in German leather and alacantra coated carbon fiber coated brushed aluminium coated gold, while I'm used to grey plastic. :p

Think your meant to remove the clock and ibstall a boost controller in its location tbh.

I've been out in a gt86 with a former women pro race driver who drives in the series. The car is nice, can definitely get the back end out. But it's not powerful enough for what it is. Imo.

More than you can afford pal, Toyota.

Dunno why but I always found that part of the film really odd, it was just weird the way they made a big thing out of a highly modified car being able to struggle to get away from a Ferrari that it should be able to virtually keep up with when stock, kinda flew in the face of the way the rest of the film made modified cars out to be godly.
