£100k Garage: Is one car better than many?

My questions are this;

If you had a hypothetical £100k that had to be spent on a single car, what would it be?

On a single car, an Aston Martin DBS

Why would you choose that single car over many used ones that excel in specific areas?

I probably wouldn't. Despite it being my dream car, I would more likely have several used ones

Would you keep your own current car? If so, you must add it to the list and subtract its current market price from the£100k budget!

I would

Would you prefer many cars in your garage, perhaps a few classics?

Yes

What would your £100k garage be and why?

My 100k Garage :

£30k : My 530d Msport Touring (value seems ridiculous to me, but that's what comes up when filling out insurance quotes etc...)

£40k : Aston Martin DB9 (because I want more than the one car I could have with a DBS, and this is a good enough compromise)

£30k : X5 Msport 40d (because there isn't enough budget left for any of the new range rovers, or a X5d M)

That covers pretty much all car needs. Practical diesel in my 530d, fun weekend car in the DB9 and a nice 4x4 for winter / ikea duties.

Now, I would have just had my current car and a one of the new V8 Range Rovers (used admittedly), but that would have broke the £100k barrier.

Well for me the RS6 is an incredible blend. Supercar performance which would be perfectly at home on the track as well as touring around the continent with five people in comfort. Added to the fact you could probably fit a wardrobe in the boot with the seats folded and I think it's pretty hard to beat as an all round package. In fact I can't think of a single car that would be a better all rounder.

The one obvious drawback being the fuel economy, but I'm guessing if you've got £100k to spend on a car then you won't be too bothered about that.

You're all kind of missing the point, why would you choose what you're choosing.

I don't think I'm missing the point at all, I've always loved the "Wolf in Sheeps clothing" type of car, to me, the M5 is just this - even the e60 variant which at a glance can be easily be mistaken for a 520d M Sport - Its just a pity the budget is so short!

I suppose I could compromise with a (used) Scania R730 HGV (they are £150k+ new!) and an e39 M5 with the change but I'm (as ever) digressing into trucks again! :o :D

10k Best possible Celica GT4 money could buy. My rally rep sorted.
20k Lotus Carlton for 4 door needs.
40k Nissan R34 GTR Nur Spec.
The rest on the best possible Landcruiser I can get for my money.

Don't think I'd spend 100 grand on one car I like a little variation and tbh some of the cars I'd have wouldn't be all that special as such.

Nissan GTR R35/R36 - Mostly because the electronic assistance means I can mostly drive "my" style without having to compromise for characteristics of the car - though doesn't have much application to every day driving on the road sadly.

Golf VR6 - Soft spot for them and I enjoy it for every day driving even if a little bit more effort than more modern cars.

Corrado VR6 - Just coz they look funny.

Rover 220 tomcat - More to scratch it off the list really, don't like them that much any more but as a child it was one of the cars that caught my attention due to being a bit unique.

Good chance I'd throw an Ariel Atom in there just coz they are so nuts and something by Aston Martin if it fitted in the price (another one that caught my attention as a child but don't really have much in the way of feelings for any more).

EDIT: Could be fun to have something like the judge dredd land rover or Aliens APC in there for lols to.

£25k R34 GTR V-spec II (dream car of all time)
£20k Focus RS (mainly for mrs)
£30k Range Rover (why not)
£10k Mondeo TXS (mile muncher)
£15k Ford Escort Cosworth (Nom)

new dodge ram hd £50k~ after shipping/tax etc
I'd trade my current 2007 model in for this, just because I need one to tow my 5th wheel and it's not bad on juice either for a 6.7diesel, 25-30mpg@60mph towing the van.

With the remaining 50k I could 'just' scrape a 2014 corvette looking at ebay, just as a weekend toy. :)

£20k Ford Mondeo Titanium x sport estate mk4 automatic (240ps) - Just something nice and comfortable to bumble around in as a daily and not be noticed whatsoever by anyone. Also, a nice amount of tech which is important in a daily.

£30k Lotus Exige - Been a passenger in one of these at Silverstone with a racing driver at the wheel. Loved every second of it and would love one of these in my life, for tracks. My rear wheel drive monster!

£20k Evo 8 FQ400 - Always feel envious of Evo owners driving past and having the manual gearbox is important to me since it would be purely for fun (4wd track monster :D).

£6k Renault Clio trophy - The front wheel drive monster to complete my track trio!

The rest could go on something really big + heavy just to tow the cars to a track + a trailer to put them on.

Edit: I'd keep my Octavia vRS too because I like it :)

Daily driver: 2009 5.2 v10 Audi S8 = 25k.
Weekend driver: 2009 5.2 v10 Audi R8 = 65k.

Keep 10k in change for throwing at people when they need something doing to them. Not that 10k would cover much.

2 cars, the first I could only probably afford a door and a seat may by, a Ferrari enzo. In black.

Second an Aston Martin dbs9

40K 2014 Range Rover Evoque - For everyday driving and most probably take it for the occasional off-road day. Almost bought one of these instead of my current car so would be nice to finally get one.
60K Lamborghini Gallardo - Absolutely love Lambos and you can pick up a reasonable one for >60K now so I'd definitely go for one of these just for the thrills. Take it out once a week or so.

Wouldn't go for one car as the Gallardo wouldn't be great as an everyday driver and it would ruin the thrill of it if I were to drive it daily. Would love to have a few more cars but then I'd be getting into compromising. Currently have a 2014 ST and it doesn't really do anything better than either of those 2 other than fuel economy.

I'm pretty poor but I suppose if I lost my sense of perspective I'd probably go for the Jaguar F-Type. It's sexy as hell to me, I think even I could pull in it lol, everyone should have 2 seater sports car once in their lives and I could just about afford to run it for a short while at least.

I'd also get a Mini Countryman, I know a lot of people hate them but I don't for some reason, plus I occasionally need something practical and while I like Crossovers and SUVs I don't want anything that's too big especially in London and this would fit my needs. I'd get an AWD one with all the kit and leather interior.

If there's anything left I'd get a Honda NC 750 S DCT Motorcycle, cause I want a nice easy to ride commuter bike for work, when the weather isn't too bad.

That's a good point. With the 10k I have left over from the post above, I'd buy myself a 70 or 80s CB750 and spend my spare time making my personal brat bike.

Personally I would get one of the new BMW M3s for myself and a Nissan GTR for the Mrs. If I had enough left over from that (would be touch and go) then an S2000 for some VTEC top down goodness.

Basically those are the cars were aiming to get next any how and that's the reason I would buy them if someone gave me the money to outright do it.

Hello Motors.

Another one of my hot topic threads:

It seems that the motoring press that I frequent are loving this 100k garage challenge article at the moment.

Simple premise, pick whatever you want, 100k limit, as many or as few as you like.

Ok cool.

The articles got me thinking, 100k is clearly a lot of money. When a new R8 list price is £100k, is any car like that worth it? Ignoring new and used for a moment, the fun you could have in a variety of cars for that budget is immense.

My questions are this;

If you had a hypothetical £100k that had to be spent on a single car, what would it be?

Yes, single car. Audi R8

Why would you choose that single car over many used ones that excel in specific areas?

Single car.

Would you keep your own current car? If so, you must add it to the list and subtract its current market price from the£100k budget!

if I had to sell it I will get less than 2k, so it doesn't really make a difference

Would you prefer many cars in your garage, perhaps a few classics?

No

What would your £100k garage be and why?

Audi R8. Fullstop. Any left overs I can keep or mod the R8.

Here's mine.

£10k - Nissan S15 Spec R.
Excellent looking car with a great heritage and massive following. Ideally import a standard one.

£35k - Honda NSX
Fixed lights if possible, preferably in imola orange. It was this or an R34 GTR. Tough decision.

£9k - My Honda S2000
Wanted one forever, now I have one. I love it so it has to stay.

£20k - Ford Focus RS - Ultimate Green
A nice low key sensible roomy hatchback to use as a daily.

£26k - Ariel Atom
It was a toss up between this, a caterham or an Exige S2. Atom wins because its the most mental.
