Hi guys,

I've got a 3770k OC'ed at 4.6, thats the max I can get out of it without temps skyrocketing - im not interested in delidding and im running on a kraken X60. My question is, would it be worth going for a 4790k - Z97 as an upgrade or would the performance gains be insignificant?

Cheers

Went from 2600k at 4.7 to 4770k at 4.6ghz. I WISH I HADNT. Now i'm waiting for x99.

you've got the upgrade bug. Theres no difference literally atall between the two.

if you want to pay say 300 pounds for 2fps more sure go ahead :).

To be perfectly honest, even if I had an overclocked i7 920 I'm not sure I'd upgrade yet.

I certainly wouldn't upgrade from a 2600K

An upgrade from a 3770K is just ridiculous.

Don't do it.

If you've got the itch get something else depending on your specs. Be it a gpu monitor keyboard or whatever

mmm.... I'll need to bookmark this thread as a reality check as my 3570k running at 4.3 / 4.4 seems to be more than adequate for my needs but, perhaps more importantly, throwing a load of money to change to the Z97 chipset and a 4790k will offer very little it seems for the cost. In fact the equiv UD5h of the Z97 chipset seems less feature rich than the Z77 version I own.

Just sell the 3570K for something like £110 and buy a 3770K for £140 or however much they sell for. :)

After postage costs etc you are only £35 or so down and have 8 threads. :)

Certainly didn't seem like there's anything worth upgrading. Maybe a new case or monitor but it's just for the same of it not that you need to. People have gone from a 7990 to 2x 290s but I think it's cause they want to not need to.
