Hey everyone

We'll finally be getting fibre within the next few weeks so I need to upgrade my old Netgear DG834 router. I've been looking at both the TPLink Archer C7 and the Asus AC56U, but I'm not sure which to go for so I thought I'd enlist advice from OcUK :)

So anyway, I know that TPLink make cheap but decent networking hardware, and that the Asus routers are said to be very good, but I'm struggling to decide which to go for. They both cost roughly the same so price isn't an issue.

I was initially swinging toward the Asus but after reading that recently there was a major hack on the Asus routers, affecting this one as well, I'm wary of getting one if they continue to find vulnerabilities and don't patch them quickly. Of course something similar could end up affecting the TPLink but it has been around for a year so far and it all seems good.

So OcUK, which router should I get? Am I right to feel wary about the Asus given the recent hack, or should I just go for it since it is theoretically a superior router to the TPLink?

Many thanks :)

There was a hack on the Asus routers?

I'd say Asus, the UI is great, they are really stable and have a lot of features (even if you won't use them) they are quick and can handle up to 800Mb on the WAN side so is very future proof.

Yeah there was :(

I have kinda been thinking that since they patched the flaw pretty quickly that is a good sign of some awesome support for the Asus. At least they did what was needed when the hack came to light.
