Hello

i was practicing/learning how to oc on my PNY GTS 250 512mb

i was taking stock bench marks when i noticed temps were high so i decided i would reply the TIM, ive had this gpu since 2009 and many times ive replaced the TIM all was successful but when it come the back pressure bracket i broke the 2 spring screws now the the gpu at idle is 60c.

now i need to replace this gpu with something cheap until my new system is build/ready.

budget is 70.00 only nvidia graphic card

so could spec me something decent which would out perform my gts 250 and future proof max budget i could go to is 140.00

i will eventually sell this 775 mob and intel core 2 due E7200 OC to 3.2 ghz and keep what ever gpu im buying today

p.s

i was looking at the 660/660 ti just to keep for my 2nd rig when i build

PowerColor 270X - £143.99 Link

There isn't a great deal of choice in that £70-£140 bracket, the cheapest 660 on OcUk is just over that budget @£149.99. That 270X would be my choice though but if Nvidia is your thing then your only real option is a cheap 660 ( i got 2x Asus DCU2 for £129.99 through that auction site) or maybe a 750Ti.

I have to ask, what is your reasoning for wanting NVIDIA only? AMD really do offer a better price to performance ration in these price brackets.

Don't go thinking I'm an AMD fanboy looking to change your ways either, I have almost always had NVIDIA GPU's myself. But any ATI/AMD's I had were fine. :)

reason why im going with nvida is because i have 3d vision and my siblings use phottshop and 3d prgrams.

DanielSon i was thinking of keeping this gpu permanelty in this 2nd rig until i sell it nad re house i t n the new 2nd backup rig.

the 660 is better than the 660ti and both 660/660tiare better than 750/750ti

Matine yes i do know that's its 9800 GTX thanx for letting us anyways.

yeh was thinking of buying new budget/mid range gpu because i would be selling this 775 rig with gts 250 soon.

so thts why i was considering new modern gpu for my 2nd backup rig when i buid it.

good point about the cooler might just do the trick.

what sort of temps should i be getting with this cooler.

this the gpu i have PNY GeForce GTS 250 XLR8 Performance Edition 512MB GDDR3

yeh your wright just wanted some thing what looks the part and is pleasing to the eyes, well i found this Gelid Solutions Icy Vision Rev.2 at competitor for 26.11.

supports my gpu

But surely after buying an aftermarket cooler and fans to go with it, your three quarters of the way to the price of a much better card anyway.

That's why I said for the GTS250, OP should just grab that £14.99 cooler and be done with it. If he's gonna spend any more money on the cooler, he might as well go grab a faster 2nd hand card that already got a custom cooler on it.

the Gelid Solutions Icy Vision Rev.2 comes with fans and everything i need for 26 pound, so is that a lot money to spend on the gpu cooler or should buy another gpu

I am using that cooler on my 290x. It's a decent cooler for the price, but I still think it's overkill for use with a card such as the GTS250, especially considering the chances are the voltage on the card is probably locked anyway.

But it's up to you.

the thing is the pc im on now is the only working pc in my house hold, ive got few mods left to do on the case on the sig and need to gets some ram.

once tht pc is ready im going to sell this system including the gts 250 but until than i have two option either buy the the cooler which by the way is very good it outperformed the Gigabyte GTX 670 windforce 3x oc edition cooler and keep it without selling it or i buy a budget nvidia gpu.

and keep it for spare for another build

If you are going to use the GTX680 as the main, then for the secondary PC, it's probably best to see if you can find a second hand GTX560Ti 2GB or GTX650Ti Boost 2GB (192-bit) for under £50~£60, or GTX660 for around £70.

Can you not hold it on with cable ties?

no i already thought of that, i was thinking to reopen it reapply the TIM but if i do that wont be able to put the back bracket back on for sure with 2 screws.

another option is if i can find the wright 2 screws for the bracket
