Car Vinyl Wraps

anyone who's done it, did it impact your insurance premium? I'm sure it would be something you have to declare as it's changing the entire colour of the car :p

depends on your insurer some will say you need to declare, some say you don't as its only a sticker in reality, same as a bumper sticker is not a mod.

Few places around my area charge £700 for a small car to be wrapped.
I'm seriously considering it.

Make sure you've seen what it looks like up close, what a car looks like once the wrap has been removed, and how they cut the vinyl :) Otherwise you could end up getting a cheap wrap covering up knife marks all over the paint which you won't know about until you take the wrap off.

mondeo in chav wrap shocker lol :D

What will be chav about me doing it?

Paul charges £1500(+VAT) for a GTR so I'd expect to pay similar for a large car. He takes front bumper, rear bumper, doors, boot, spoiler, side mirrors all off the car. You can get it done cheaper but I'd never take my car anywhere else after seeing the level of care he takes.

I've seen him get recommended repeatedly, if I do get it done I'll definitely be getting it done by him

I had the front end (bumper, bonnet, wings and wing mirrors) of my GTR wrapped with clear vinyl to protect against stone chips.

Had it done by Valet Magic who now have a bad rep in the GTR community due to some of his workers taking shortcuts (as mentioned by tsinc80697).
Mine was done by the owner and as such was a good job.

Because mine was a protection film which is a little thicker there was a slight orange peel effect but nothing that really bothered me too much.

I cleaned and polished it just like normal paint and as it wraps around the edge of the panels you can really go at it with a pressure washer and it doesn't lift off or anything like that.

I am now trying to decide what I want to do when I get the R8, I hear that Audi paint is pretty hard so less prone to having massive chunks taken out of it. The Nissan paint is like butter and you can almost put a mark in it with your finger nail!

If I do go for a wrap again it would definitely be with Paul at PWPRO, his reputation is excellent and his prices are very good.
The only downside is the distance to his workshop and the massive queue of people booked in to have work done!

^JP^, do you have a rough idea of how much it would cost to put a protective clear layer over the bumper, bonnet, wings and wing mirrors at PWPro? My car is an M135i but I'm not sure if the price differs by car/surface area.

Just had mine detailed and I'm trying to avoid breathing on it let alone washing it. Was swirl heaven even though it was detailed 12 months ago. It's the main reason for the wrap, so I can stop being so pernickety with washing it.

I've got my car booked in for October, that was Paul's earliest date. I'll be driving from Manchester and piddling around getting 3 trains back, hopefully all worth it though.

Just give him a call, really nice guy and he'll give you a price within 5 minutes. Just be prepared to wait several months as he's insanely busy.

I'd love to have this done to my car, but I can't justify it on a clio ;p

Maybe when I get something with a bit more cred.

My mates been quoted 800 quid to get his A4 S line done. Guaranteed for 8 years I think he said.

I think I'll email him rather. Don't want to take up too much of his time if I'm undecided about getting it done.

I've not seen what a clear layer looks like in the flesh, so I can't really commit to anything at the moment.

I got a quote over email and he emailed back straight away with a price.
For my Mondeo it'd be £1300 (+VAT)

dunno if people have seen the latest mighty car mods but they do vinyl accenting in their vid on moogs s2000. tidy job too! granted that job is tiny in comparison to doing the entire car...... but gives me ideas :D

Every month I think about this for my s2000
I would hope it isn't too bad a cost as there's no roof.
Wouldn't pay over 1k
800 amd I'd probably do it

I've always thought about getting my car wrapped but then it strikes me that £1,500 is a nice chunk off my next motor purchase and I then ultimately decide against it.

Cost me about 900 quid for that on the GTR which has a pretty big front end.

The protective film is also a little more expensive than the "thin" Vinyl, unless you are going for some crazy flip colour or gold chrome etc then they are expensive also.

I would say you would be looking at about 5-600 quid for your car but as said, best to give a call or email for a quote.
