Latest rumors suggest that the 880 won't surface until 2015.

Good shout on the Devils Canon but I would perfer the 4790. You may want to read this before you buy.

September is likely the earliest it could come to market anyhow (usually about 5 months from tape out to retail), though they keep so much under wraps these days its hard to know for sure, I could see nVidia maybe pushing for the seasonal market maybe.

We should be seeing some more definite news in a few days though.

EDIT: Don't think it will be too late - most of the hold up has been TSMC rather than nVidia problems so far and TSMC are only about 3 months behind schedule or so.

Good article Kiwi, the only reason I picked a DC Intel chip was because it was the newest, I'd be more than happy with a good 4770k tbh. Think I will keep my eyes on the MM soon, with the release of the DC chip there might be a few 4770k's about like Joe managed to get!

In saying that 4.8 which is what most reviewers are getting is not bad at all. I'm assuming Haswell is about 20% faster than Sandy clock for clock which is not a bad improvement. Either way that 780 of yours would definitely benefit from some more juice. Mine runs my game at constant 120. While I've had less problems with SLI than I have with crossfire I would much rather go with a very quick card than SLI/Crossfire. People say they dont have problems but the graphics forum is riddled with them. No offence intended Tony, I know they are your babies :D

I'm thinking about getting a 780Ti as it may give me thatr extra 10%-20% which I will need for the ROG SWIFT PG278Q :D I simply can't wait for this monitor. Not this much geek want since SSD's first hit the market. Only thing is I will loss allot of money when the 880GTX comes out but I have my doubts that it's going to be 2014 :(

Good to know Rroff :) I'll keep my ear to the ground for more news. It would be awesome to have a new card in 2014.

I hope new GPU's don't come out this year!!! If they do, I think I would be regretting my 290 then

Good article that and tbh, after thinking about it and looking at how much I have spent recently, I am just going to wait for the DC CPU to come in stock and for the price drop on the current haswell stuff and just get the i5-4670k, looked at the i7 one but I don't do any form of video editing and only a tiny bit of lightroom, photoshop so don't think I would see much benefit from the i7.

Pretty sure we told you to wait... :p

We certainly did, although I did tell him to do it but that was for an Nvidia!

Waiting would have been better all round in my opinion. Either the price of the current generation cards would drop, allowing him to buy a better current generation. Alternatively, having waited longer and saved more money would have allowed him to buy a next-generation card.

But oh no... March right in buying it just because it was on offer.

TBH, I couldn't have waited much longer as most of my games are coming out in the next 6 months and my 7850 was struggling with the current games @2560x1080 i.e. wolfenstein and watch dogs.

I wouldn't have bought any of the next gen GPUs as guaranteed the top single GPU's will cost £450+ and the middle range ones will probably cost £350+ so I'm not willing to put that much out regardless of how good they are! :p

I think the 290 will cope pretty well for the next year or so.

Saying that, personally I can't see AMD/nvidia bringing anything out this year.....

:D

Upgrade itch needed to be scratched!

haha, great minds think alike josh :D

edit:

hopefully get my amd code stuff tomorrow so I can sell that on for about £30

I think he made the right move to be honest - he would be waiting along time for anything next gen - esp given the card he had is pretty old these days and hardly up to the task of running a high end monitor. While the 290 is basically a rebadged 7970 - its fantastic value for money, esp when you consider mantle performance in BF4.

That is just scary, we clearly have bonded in the hours spent alone in your tank! :p

lol, in our little love tank! :D :p

Glad someone thinks that I did the right thing! I am more reassured now :D

And yup, I am going to be enabling mantle in bf 4, believe or not, I have a few other settings on high/ultra now  Found a decent guide on symthic:

http://forum.symthic.com/battlefiel...88-graphics-settings-and-how-they-affect-fps/

Some of the recommended settings are much better for jets and tanks.

Only bad thing about using mantle, no sweetfx :(

Go where the bang for buck is nexus, don't listen to fan boys, I can never understand why people take sides and bad mouth the other side. It actually makes me chuckle when I hear people's discussion on teamspeak bad mouthing AMD saying they are so crap....yet here I am and plenty of others with amd setups that actually completely embarrasses very expensive Nvidia cards a fraction of the price.

I did tell you to wait though, but I do understand why you upgraded now. Your 7850 would definitely be strugglingvfrom here on in, and a 4gb card at under 300 jibs is a very good price. Don't be frightened or put off by the crossfire nay sayers, crossfire is immense these days. In a year you'll be able to pickup a second 290 for well under £200 I expect, so for less than £500 you'll have insane performance and will make a mockery of any of these incredibly overpriced single cards.

Hush fanboy! tbh I would have AMD but already bought my 780 before the 200 series cards were announced.

I'm no fan boy lol, I'll go any way which gives me the most performance for the least amount of my money. Really interested in seeing the price point of the 880 series though as you well know.

Yeah I have no loyalty to either brand, will go for whatever offers me the best package all round. I was so badly wanting to try nvidia this time though as my last 2 GPU's have been AMD now (haven't had any serious problems with them, just felt like a change) but the 780 was £50 more, only one game came with it and only 3GB VRAM so I just couldn't justify going for it over the 290's 3 games, 4GB VRAM, mantle (plus since the next gen consoles both have AMD GPU's, I'm hoping the next gen games will play better on AMD cards considering half of the games these days are poor PC ports....)

I will always side with intel CPU's though! :p

Hoping to sell my 7850 as well so once I get rid of that and the AMD games, the 290 will have only cost me about £200

I can't see myself going down the dual gpu setup still, just too much heat will be generated (290 hits 81 degrees @ load) and with this weather, my room gets stupidly hot (even with the velux window open) so I would hate too imagine what it would be like with 2x290's! :p :(

Two questions.

@ Nexus - what case do you have?

What is Mantle and what difference will it make on BF4?

Antec P100, 2x120mm antec tri cool fans at the front (on high preset) and 1x120mm akassa apache at the back

Good thread on mantle here:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18602206&highlight=mantle

Essentially an alternative API to DX API for AMD GPU users, to sum it up, you get better minimum and average FPS, it will be more of a benefit to users with weak CPUs and powerful GPUs i.e. pretty much my setup, someone with a top end i7/i5 probably won't notice much of a difference between mantle and DX API.

Only used in a few games atm, BF 4, hardline and thief, it comes down to both the game engine and game developer so frostbite supports it and assuming the game developers who use the engine support it as well, these games could/should have mantle:

Battlefield 5
Civilization: Beyond Earth **
Dragon Age: Inquisition **
Mass Effect 4
Mirror's Edge 2
Star Wars Battlefront
Star Wars (Visceral Project)

Supposedly cryengine and Rebellion Asura engine will be incorporating mantle.
