Disaster averted, now after feedback on Sony 32"

In Sainsburys a deal (too-good-to-be-true) occurred with a last in stock Panasonic Viera 42" TV. Bought it, and brought it home. It was destined for the third bedroom, but after unboxing and putting in situ it looked ridiculous for the size/shape of the room.

Needless to say, it found a better home in the second bedroom where it fitted the dimensions of the room far better. Now the problem, we need a 32" TV which will be used for Films, Football and consoles.

I've spied this little beauty: SONY BRAVIA KDL32W706B
... which comes in either Black or Silver. It appears to have everything that I would want for a £350 price tag. Is there anything else I should consider or be wary of?

I note it is 200Hz frequency, will this actually be positive or negative to the viewing experience?
 
The 200hz is Pseudo HZ (Interpolation) its an artificial inserted frame to make it look smoother but depending on what you are watching it can look horrid.

Movies = bad

Sports = good (so I have read but I do not do sport).
 
What jh30uk is referring to is the 'soap opera effect' where too many frames make anything you watch look like an episode of eastenders.

I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure this won't happen due to the '200Hz' frequency spec. That's just an 'estimation' by Sony as to the refresh rate of the TV once all their motion enhancement gubbins is applied. All TV manufacturers do it so it's nothing to be afraid of, just know that in reality the real refresh rate is in fact lower.

Generally you want a set with 100Hz real refresh minimum, which as you can see from the table in that link this set does have, so you're good to go.

edit: I think the soap opera effect comes about on higher end sets which actually have much higher refresh rates and can be activated in the picture settings
 
I have the silver one in my spare room for gaming and tv watching when soap operas are on downstrairs!

its a great little set..picture quality on freeview HD is good, been watching some of the world cup, blu ray playback through the ps4 looks magnificent, deep blacks. Gaming looks amazing, good fast screen, vibrant colours

I replaced an old samsung set and laughed when I took it out of the box as it looked tiny compared to the old 32" I had

I have a 42" downstairs and I had got used to the tiny frame..but its amazing placing a new tv alongside a 3 or 4 year old model!

also have it linked direct

anyway..as a second set for the bedroom I think its astounding value given the quality of the panel and a real metal frame..not painted plastic

I also have it wired up to my network..I love having a single red button on the remote that takes me straight to netflix!

I think you have got it the wrong way around.

Artificial frames are created for movie use. Movies use only 24 fps so it's to boost that.

Sports however usually have lots of static stuff on the screen like scoreboard, time, competing factions, channel logo, etc, etc. All of them get distorted hugely when the camera moves especially if it's moving fast because the software expects them to also move along with everything else on screen. It cannot differentiate between static overlays and on screen stuff so it distorts.

Therefore it should be turned off for sports. On for movies.

But purists prefer stock, so they recommend it's off for everything.
