Iv just sent it back today this card a 290x MSI gaming edition. and replaced it with a lightning.
The difference in temps is like night and day under load. The gaming edition was 86 in kombuster stress test 1030mhz, the lightning 59 degree"s after 15 mins.
Needless to say im happy with the lightning, but was the gaming edition prob a bad chip with a combination of inadequate cooler? Also as for the chip this binning, does that not leave you short changed. Sillicon lottery i can accept, but when you buy a chip perhaps MSI should put a disclaimer "warning this chip is second rate and would not be selected for lightning editions" will make me think how i buy MSI products in future.

lol LMatt. thefogo yeah 86 degree"s but its also the same in BF4, and even iracing with unlimited framerates to get full load. seems that"s the full operating temp on max load
Fans on 71% But it stays solid at that point and holds TBF. Just seemed a bit much even for an AMD, based on reviews. phh and just to add again that was all at 1030hz not the 1040 as stated

Why would you use such software? You putting your cards under so much stress way beyond what any game will do.
My two stay around 70c to 80c depending on the game.
Mostly 70's

Do you use play Kombuster everyday or play games?

Test the card during what you intend to use it for!!!

My Lightening does 1610 core. You seen a gaming that does better??

As I say 86 degree"s on BF4 and iracing. Kombuster is just a quick test, to compare. Tells me that if im maxing out the GPU in eyefinity for max frames then its gona sit at 86.
While I test the lightning tonight im gona guess that under reference
its not gona go any higher than 59 degrees in the same games. giving me scope to overclock. Of course i may be wrong, and ill wait to see.

Shankly. I would have been happy with the gaming in the 70"s off course these run hotter, but I think 86 is to much for a custom card, maybe its just me then.

Binning all my lightning again now I modded em.

Going after several WR's as soon as possible with these.

Cant wait for AMD benching, high volts low temps and no black screen.
