I've just got a new washing machine (ask me about Costco's customer service by the way, it's absolutely excellent!) and the filler hose for it has a weird appendage I haven't seen before.

The screw bit at the supply end is ratcheted so it can't be unscrewed without pressing an extra button for a start, but it also has something else as part of it. Any ideas? Some kind of stop valve if pressure is too high or something?

If you were describing a nut and bolt I'm not sure I would understand.

Remember to use a potato camera, 320x240 pixels, blurred and in the dark.

Yeah a photo would help, also what about costco customer service :p
Well I originally bought a washing machine from them 2 and a half years ago. It would appear that I failed to register the warranty with the manufacturer, or it had run out. When I rang Costco to ask if they could help their answer was simple: "Oh you've not even had it for three years, bring it back, we'll give you a full refund."

What do you think the usual electronic retailers reply would be if I asked them for help when an appliance was out of warranty? I bet it wouldn't be all your money back!

(As per this thread, I then of course bought a new one from Costco again.)

if its similar to ours it has a foam type insert that expands when moist (love that word) and caps itself, they should be installed in a downward orientation :)

That's interesting. Wouldn't it also expand and seal when water was going through it correctly to fill the washer though?

It has indeed been fitted in a downwards position - but only by fluke because that's the way the fitting faces!
