AMD wants to improve gaming in Linux and Steam boxes

If my gaming cards didn't play games then I'd send them back as they wouldn't be fit for purpose.
It's like, if my watch didn't tell the time and just randomly display words on the screen I'd consider that bad. The fact that mine displays the time is what I expect, I don't feel the need to tell everyone about it at every opportunity.
I'm now a little worried that all my friends think I don't like my watch... :)

The majority on here like to tell both sides of there story. Yours is like a horror story where as the rest are like a drama with all sides of the story. Am gonna send Dominic from coyboy builders round to yours as if its as bad as you say Amd need a visit.

Really, other than the issues with my 7950s and the VRAM issue with Mantle and BF4, what have I said that's bad?

I will not count every time the card doesn't explode and destroy my computer as a reason to say the card is awesome. We'll just have to have different opinions of what is expected behaviour and what is worth praising.
Like I say, I didn't praise my Nvidia cards either. I didn't criticise VRAM under Mantle on my Nvidia cards, but...
So why do you and Shanks suggest I should get Nvidia cards when I've not been praising them either? surely I can't like them.

Tbh maybe its just the way you come across. Mantle works great on 290's yet you will come in and moan about the 7950's even when knowing they are not fully supported. Thats where you have the chance to be positive and negative yet always choose the negative. Yep its a bummer about the vram on the 7 series but it was always said there support would come later. You always choose the negative yet you have one ststem that has experienced the plus side and one the other.

I guess you just like to focus on negatives rather than the all round experience. Othrrs have picked up on this so I know its not just me seeing it.

As I keep saying, apparently the 7000 series are fully supported in Mantle (maybe not BF4, not sure if that's been stated yet). I've also not tried the 290s with Mantle yet. Now Mantle is in the WHQL drivers I'll be able to try them in the next Mantle game I get.
So the only Mantle experience I have is with the 7950s. Also, I have said before that using Mantle with the 7950s I get higher fps than I do on DX (if I lower the settings so that I don't get the VRAM issue). People have said Mantle is smoother, I have said I haven't noticed that. That's just me being honest, I'm not saying it isn't, just that I can't notice it.

I will admit to being less than positive about things like Mantle in general, which I think makes people think I don't like AMD or my AMD cards. In truth I'm just not quite as evangelical about everything AMD do as some people are.

I just get this feeling every time someone (or the same few repeatedly) tells me to get an Nvidia card is just that it's awkward that I own an AMD card but disagree with them so they can't use their go-to argument about not being able to use Mantle. That's just how it feels to me, so I get a little defensive when people keep saying it.

EDIT: If you spoke to my RL friends I'm sure they'd probably tell you, I'm generally negative about everything. I also don't take things quite as seriously as they might seem on a forum.

GM owning Amd Cards and then buying more AMD cards shows he likes AMD, But unlike some that doesnt stop Him seeing flaw's and pointing them out . Surely thats a good thing rather then being a blind fanboy? (not saying anyone here is ) If he has a issue and brings it up thats how these things get fixed

Fair enough tbh. If your real life friends say it then its just your personality coming across.

So reading through here, it seems if you have anything negative to say about AMD, you are wrong. Only praise is allowed and any negatives are shunned and responded with "go and buy nVidia"

Not all posts I must add but the same ardent defenders of their precious. Shocking...

Nope not at all. It was said to Googly that he should get some Nvidia as he dont seem to like his amd hardware. At least thats what I said.

Trying to send someone over to Nvidia aint vrry pro Amd.

Yer I have noticed what you have said and because he isn't sucking up to AMD and giving an honest opinion of his experiences, why should he buy nVidia? You seem to have a good opinion of Mantle and everything AMD, so why haven't you got a 290/X.

No as I said he just doesnt come across as enjoying his hardware end of story. Stop looking any deeper right there. Truth is I cant afford a top end rig atm. Read his posts and tell me if that was your experience you would still be using Nvidia.

His Rl friends even say he is overly negative and thats all you need to know. I know now the reason for why his post come across the way they do and will drop it.

That makes no sense? GM doesn't suck up, so he should buy nVidia? I have moaned about nVidia, so should I buy AMD? I moan about England football team so should I support someone else? I moan about my job, so should I get another? Sometimes we moan about things but doesn't mean we don't enjoy them and to tell him to buy nVidia is stupid.

Yea whatever lol. Try to swing it any way you like. Its been a year or more of negativity with nothing good to say. Its clear to me you love your hardware even though you have the odd negative. Stop playing stupid games.

Its a bit of a none story seen as the biggest mantle games are all bound to origin, which has no plans to be launched on linux at all.

Really? Do you know that for a fact or are you just speculating?

To my knowledge EA have never said they will not have Origin on Linux.

Personally i hope they never do, then we can have those games they way it used to be, the way it should be, stand alone.
