So I have this unusual situation where I have an msi 990fxa gd80 but no cpu
I also have an i7920 that needs a new mobo

What would you do?
Go with amd option and cpu?
Or replace the hard to find x58 mobo?

Please note that something is needed for me to have a usable Pc

This is a stop gap until sandy E

Stick with the 920 mate. Im on X58 with a six core chip and I keep going to upgrade but I don't think I will see enough performance boost to warrant spending £400. For gaming id be better off with another 670

It's a pita Tbh
The x58 boards in the bay are more than the middle range z97s

I'll keep looking in the mm for a little while longer in that case.
One advantage I saw with amd was is slot spacing for crossfire

It is a d0

Think I am going to put a wanted up for both and see what comes first.

No joy on Bay what so ever

And almost no x58 are crossfire friendly!

looks like i may have to go for a piledriver actually

this is due to it being almost impossible to find an x58 board with a decent slot placement for dual card setups
also my case isnt big enough to use the very bottom slot on ATX board as it will touch the PSU
i think i will be waiting forever to find a board with a two slot gap!
