That is a good question, I don't think it puts any extra demand on the card, but I am not 110% sure. The positives far outweigh any negatives for sure!

If the G-sync allows the GPU and monitor to interact easier with one another then surely you could run it on an slightly worse card than normal.

Yes that is the idea, slower cards benefit more from it for sure. NVIDIA did all their demo's on 680's which perform around 770 now.
