The girlfriends rig is currently running crossfired 7970s and I am fed up having to tweak the settings to get the games to run without issue/to their best ability. I am looking at replacing them with a single card that I can fit and forget.

What would you recommend and why for 1440p/1080p? She won't be running 4k for a long time.

If you running a single card any Non reference ones of those u are looking at will be fine Temp wise, 780/290 would be my pick of them cost/performance wise

depands on the budget i guess
you have the enough perf for the resolution cards, pretty much same perf

Just interested, as about to go crossfire for first time, what tweaks you had to do. I don't mind a bit of messing around with settings and only have a handful of games I play / would play regularly...

14.6 Beta driver scaling well in Crossfire for gaming and benching. Was plus and play for me.

Not sure why you would upgrade your 7979s in honesty and they will smash any single core card that is currently out. That being said, you will get less potential issues with a single card and the 290 is a great price or the 780 from EVGA has fantastic warranties and kudos to them for that.

14.6 good for all I have tested with Kapp. FS, FSX Heaven. CT is good too on FSX and FS some drivers have given me probs with CT.
