I've been meaning to get to one of these for a while now, but never really managed it. Finally I've arranged with a mate of mine to head down on Saturday 28th and really looking forward to it.

Programme

Anyone else on here already looking to go?

Went last year to the Tiger Day. Cracking day out if AFV's are your thing. Havent been to see the new building yet. Maybe next year.

Tank Fest seems to be a step up from Tiger Day in terms of number and variety of vehicles running.

It is just a bit too far away for me at the moment, but I'd love to go. There are videos on YouTube of their past events if anyone wants to see more.

I went quite a few years ago with a couple of mates, was a fun day.

They are both quite erudite WW2 amateur historians and tank aficionados and when the 'Tiger' tank from Saving Private Ryan came out one of them turned round and said "That's not a real Tiger, it's just a tiger turret on a T-34 chassis with a road wheel superstructure..."

The over the tannoy a voice said "By the way, it's not a real Tiger tank, but....."

Tank Nerd! :D

What was good was that they had other reenactment people there and I got chatting to some American Civil war guys, who put me on to 'History in Action' at Kirby hall that I went to later in the year and was absolutely amazing.

The real Tiger tank 131 is impressive went and saw that last year at Bovington. Haven't seen the fake one but my nerd tank alert would have gone into over drive no doubt :p

It's a shame Jingles isn't going to be there, but I'd love to go again.

If you have a son, take them, one of my best childhood memories was seeing a couple of Chieftain tanks at full tilt.

We are heading down, myself, wife and my our 2 kids, my brother, his two lads and my youngest sister. Really looking forward to it but i won't mind if it was a bit cooler than current temperature as I am related to Jack Frost :p.

Really would love to go too but the distance for me is such a pain. I'll just remain eternally jealous of you all!

My WW2 group used to be one of those that put on the main shows and battle displays, as well as organising the pyros...

We don't go any more because every year Bovington museum and the other groups would ignore our safety advice (almost everyone in all our units is a qualified and licenced disply pyrotechnician) and every year someone would get hurt... as in, taken to hospital.

The last time we went, one of our guys had a thunderflash purposely thrown into the shell scrape he was hiding in and ended up being badly burned, while another had a full 20rnd Thompson magazine of blank rounds fired at him from about 2 feet away - The firer later said he thought it would be a laugh to deafen someone!!

A couple of years ago, the inevitable accident this time involved projectiles spinning off-target and into the public.

Going down on the Saturday with my gf. She's very good for putting up with my nerdyness I must say.
