New Nissan X-Trail

What are these retailing for new? 30k for the Tekna models?

If I had the money to walk into a showroom and buy one, I probably wouldn't. I'd be more inclined to go with the Ford Kuga Titanium X sport with the manual box, 2 litre diesel and AWD.

Thats your opinion I guess, but apart from the badge, there's not much to recommend.

Thats almost as daft as the suggestion of a more expensive car as an alternative in the first place :p

A good autobox is the only thing that can make the tedium of a 2 litre diesel tolerable. I cannot imagine why you'd want to change gear yourself in what has to be the most appliance-like engine choice you can make. Nobody picks a 2.0 TDI because they love driving so why would you want a manual one so you can constantly stir the box to make the most of the tiny powerband?

Its as quick as a 1.6 petrol Astra or Focus and large numbers of people have no issues with that.

That's because loads of people don't like driving and a car is just a tool to get form a to b.

Give us some reasons then

I don't really want to derail the thread as a BMW is a pointless alternative to a Nissan X-Trail but it's fairly obvious that there are many things to recommend about one - performance, handling, interiors, engine range, refinement, etc.

I'd have a Ferrari over one of those any day of the week.

Not quite sure what you're getting at with that post, given Freefaller was clearly responding to the claim that the Qashqai is a much better car than a BMW and that's why everyone at his work is dumping their BMWs for Qashqais :p

Oh, you're talking about X-Trail's, fair enough...

I believe the reason why people were giving up their BMW's is because they were getting tired of been reamed by the tax man.

So they opted out of the company car Scheme and got themselves Qashqai as they are cheap to run and seemed nice (to them) and now they pockect some money from the car allowance instead of hemorrhaging a load of cash to the tax man.

In other words they now have cash in their pockets instead of been out of pocket.

Looks alright, could be good for large families and going on holiday with. Though the engine is a big killer for me, 2.0L or above with 180hp+ and 4WD please.

Tax and fuel economy is a fair reason to change car... But as far as an enjoyable drive and having a level of refinement I'd choose the BMW.

I have never been fond of the Qashqai, I don't find them comfortable and relatively pointless. I you want a big 4*4 get one!

I really don't see how that big lump of a car can do 0-60 in 10 seconds with a diesel 1.6 engine. I call BS. Unless it's super doopa turbo charged no way.

Easy in this day and age. Just look at Ford's 1.0 EcoBoost and 1.6 TDCI, or VAG's TFSI system which can get something like 150HP out of a 1.2.
