Off work ill

Yes i get paid sick pay for the first 6 months. First 3 days you don't get paid then you.

A lot of people used to ring in short term absence so they introduced the First 3 days no pay. And yes it has reduced the short term absence, but long term absence has rocketed.. But someone like me never rings in for few days ;)

I agree with this. The people with the worst diet always seem to be ill.

I was going to put this too!

The people off are generally the ones that are either overweight or have a diet of stella, pot noodles and greggs! (I think I would be off ill once a week if all I ate was that)

We get full sick pay from day 1 for first 6 months then half pay for 6 months - Never took any days off but some people I know will throw a week on the sick just before going on holiday for 3 weeks and then come back and work overtime to build the holidays back up. I was amazed at the amount of time they are actually off because of playing this trick - 2 months solid off work and still able to bank plenty of hours for the xmas period.

The last time I pulled a sickie was about 7 years ago. I couldn't relax. I was too scared to go anywhere in case someone saw me, so I stayed in all day. I think I did some housework. It was a complete waste of time.

Lol brilliant.

I get 6 months full pay 6 months half pay for sickness too. I've had 8 days in the past calendar year split over a 1x5 days and 1x3 days. I'm about to have a knee operation and will be off for 8-12 weeks.

Because the week I had off self certified has led to the operation it comes off my sickness file. Surgery is also not marked off as sickness so I will be having nearly a quarter of the year off work sick on full pay, with no repercussions.

Thats local government for you though :)

I only take days off work when Ill because I can't poo because there's nothing worse than serving a queue of customers and needing to blow constantly.

:o ;)

I get 50 sick days with full pay each year,i haven't been of sick for over a year, last time was due to me damaging my ankle which i had just under 3 weeks off, haven't had a "proper,im dying sick day" for years.

When it comes to being sick i follow this, if work was to turn round and say "you are not getting paid for this sickness" are you sick enough to not actually come into work, hence why i have only had 2 periods of sickness off in 6 years one where my back actually felt like someone had smashed it with an sledge hammer and the second was 2 days together where i couldn't even get off the toilet for the reason you are probably thinking

Also The amount of people on sick where i work is terrible, theres a couple who claim to be depressed but that doesn't stop them going out every weekend and putting 50 pictures of them raving away on facebook, now i'm not an expert on depression but surely you don't go out 3 nights a week and then flaunt it on public media, it makes a mockery of the people who are actually depressed.

sorry if i offend anyone with the depression thing, but it really gets my goat.

Depression takes many turns. It's not about feeling sorry for yourself 24/7. Depressed people have extreme highs and extreme lows.

Well I have a wedding on a Friday which I cannot get the time off for, so sick that day, and also a stag do weekend, which I will also be sick for.

Other than that, very rarely.

Nobody will believe this but it's the absolute 100% truth.
Before September 1988 I would have a week off work with a broken flask but I had a life changing experience in 1988 and swore that I'd have to be really ill to take time off.
I've been very lucky but since then I've never had 1 day off work with illness or injury. Last January I woke up in A&E with concussion and a dislocated shoulder but against the wishes of my Managers I put a weeks holiday in so I could keep a clear record.
HOWEVER, I've had plenty of illnesses such as colds, stomach aches, the runs & injuries but I've always been on a job where I could cope and that is the major difference. Yesterday was a bad day for me and several people commented that I didn't look too good but I'm sitting at a desk where I can cope but I do accept that some people have a lower tolerance. Last week I'd got a 24 hour 'runs' bug but I stayed at work and didn't tell anybody while my colleague went home with the same problem.
And yes I do realise I won't get a medal.

People who go to work sick need hanging. The ones that think they're "letting the team down" are the worst. They go in and share their germs with 'the team' so everyone else who isnt a jobsworth goes on the sick. Then said jobsworth complains about people being ill and having to take up the slack.

Numpties.

You do realise you are putting the other members of staff at risk?

But well done you

Had my first period of sickness last year due to a nasty bout of food poisoning. Both me and the other half had it. Could set your watch by my toilet routine. Every fifteen minutes to throw up. Half an hour I'd fire it out the other end at the same time. This year caught a stomach bug that was going round and it was just throwing up. No leaky bum.
Can't stand it when people are off with the sniffles. There's a woman I work with who is literally the most pathetic person I've ever met and just seems to constantly be ill but ok when it comes to going on holiday or for nights out...
Also don't get the stress thing people seem to get all the time. I deal directly with the supermassive oil companies every day. I'm literally single point of contact for a 45 million pound contract right now. I'm contactable by phone and email 24/7. I deal with highly demanding individuals in highly demanding environments (offshore) and I've never taken a day off for stress. At the drop of a hat I can be required to go to some of the most dangerous countries in the world and also have to continue with everything I'm doing on top.

I'm sure that makes you feel very good but I doubt your co-workers appreciated you coming in when ill and potentially passing it on to them.

Sick leave is there to be used, don't abuse it but also don't be afraid to use it. Your colleagues won't be thinking "what a great worker" when you are coughing and sneezing at your desk, they'll be thinking "god I hope I don't catch that!" :p

It's Dimple....he's one of 'those'. If you have a story he has seen or done better then you. Good for a laugh in a pub, but a bore otherwise.

It's annoying for me when people come into the office coughing and spluttering. I have two young kids who pick up everything (as kids do) and then it means they catch it off me then can't go to nursery and I have to either take the day off or work from home.
