The Division Downgraded On PC

being an assasins creed fan i thought i hadn't noticed the ubisoft issues on pc, but then i go and get far cry 2 for nostalgias sake on steam and what the hell is going on with that? for example i had to do the following to get it to accept screen res:

set to dx10 mode, turn settings up [low, by default, on a 290x? lol no]

set to dx9 mode, game crashes

relaunch in dx9 mode, set resolution to 5040*1200, meet epically stretched menus and messed up vertical mouse movement

set to dx10 mode, game crashes

relaunch in dx10 mode, apart from stretched menus and mouse all looks fine.

launch new game, game crashes

relaunch in dx10 mode, find it's reverted to dx9 mode at 900*600 resolution

give up and play something that actually works

compared to the method for kerbal space program:

launch game, find its decided to change config to accept new resolution

go into hangar and ponder if vertical eyefinity would be better for building massive rockets.

bf3 and bf4 are the same, so even ea has got the hang of it [although some cutscenes bug by letting you see what you shouldnt be able to, but thats ok]

its also kinda sad the war of the gpu oem's, sometimes i ponder if you'd really need to have two rigs- one green and one red, just to get the best out of whatever game takes your fancy. shouldn't be like that by a long shot.

No one has said it yet?

This is going to be a really Crappy time for Ubisoft Sweden...not only with managerial staff up the stockade, but the sheer amount of suspicion between coworkers.

Whoever yabbed, just trapped themselves. :(

I've not got a lot of Ubisoft games and can't say too many really interest me at the minute, but I'll just take it 1 game at a time. If it looks like I'll like the game, I'll get it, otherwise I won't. Graphics aren't the only thing I look for in a game and won't stop me buying a game I want or make me buy a game I don't want.

I can understand shankly's POV though. Having played BF4 I've now been put off buying any future DICE games and any future FrostBite engine games (which is unfortunate as I was tempted by Mass Effect 4). The issue that game has caused me has left a bad taste in my mouth, so if shankly's had problems with past Ubisoft games I can understand him being cautious of future ones.

Agreed :D

i mean it's not like console gamers care about the game being better on PC

Yes it is. They always swallow the propaganda about the new consoles being "more powerful than a PC" and try and regurgitate it at PC gamers who proceed to #rekt them thoroughly. Also they believe that pad players can compete with mouse/keyboard players, LOL.

They're always moaning about "needing a £4000 PC to play games" as well. They're still trying to push the myth that 30fps is all you need despite PC gamers busting it years and years ago. They're in a constant state of butthurt because they can't afford that extra couple of hundred quid for a decent PC and are stuck with 720p.

Great...we had consoles draggings the legs of PC games graphic progression for years. Now the new consoles managed to do that from year 1? Amazing (no in the good way)!

May be people who are impressed by previews of games such as Gotham Knight should start to get worried as well...and fingercross very hard that the game is not like one of these Ubisoft games which the preview is nothing more just another (pre-order) money-grabbing false advertising sham...

Why make a game look excellent in pre release videos, then nerf it into the ground visually because some of the effects took a bit more effort to refine? I didn't understand this with aliens colonial marines and I sure as hell didn't understand it with watch dogs. Whats going on with the pc gaming industry?

Making the rest of the game with the same fidelity as that vertical slice would almost double development time and certainly cost a lot more. AFAIK it's not like you get the effects working and then say "bosh, now we just layer this over a bunch of levels", there's going to be problems with conflicts/overheads/latencies/etc and generally weird things popping up at random points in the game, like the doctor's rotating head at the beginning of New Vegas.

Its false advertising though at the very worst level.

i dont know if there s any, but PC gamers need to make some kind of .org, to regroup community, to gather support for X studios or projects, and wide spread boycot msg on te internet against X project, maybe with an underground community to promote ways to kill sales for X projects, because without real pressure from pc gamers this will not change xD
let's start a REVOLUTION hahaha...

This console generation is going to truly suck where graphics are concerned. They have the equivalent of what, a single 7870 don't they? With developers having to push near 1080p in every game I can't see graphics pushing forward much for a while. Just think how much raw power something like sli 780Ti's have over a single 7870 and we are only about 6-7 months in. :(

Probably the wrong place to post this but people realise games are more than just graphics right?

As for the comments about not caring about PC gamers, they don't care about gamers fullstop. Every Ubisoft game I've played on PC and console in the last few years (more console recently) has been broken. They don't listen to customer feedback and they don't fix bugs, they just care about releasing more and more paid for DLC to bleed their customers dry before moving on to their next project where they promise the world and give you Iraq.

with the pace of witch pc graphics have been advancing lately, this was a topic of discussion before the launch of consoles, and many developers said it, that PC is advancing way faster than consoles, and because of that consoles will have shorter life, they cannot do like last gen, stick around for 10 years.
you imagine yourself playing with a 7870 in 2024 ?
they dont have a lot of options :
1-shorter renewal cycle, new console every 3-5 year, this cannot happen because now games take almost that much to develope.
2-seperate console versions games from PC versions , like mobile from consoles, this is the only logical way i see personaly.
3-unifying all games in any platform, this results on holding back the pc, it's retarded and this will not help them sell on pc platform, rather push ppl to despise them for it.
4-the end of console gaming, out of the question with all these billions to be made.

the best they can do is make console innovative with specific techs to differentiate from pc, like what Nintendo been doing, and make PC specific Games, or just stop porting **** to pc and spare us the frustration.

Honestly what a load of nonsense. I have a gaming PC with crossfire 290x's etc and a PS4. I still like to play games on my console. I know it looks better on my PC but I don't care.

This PC elitist attitude really annoys me. I also think this story is just someone jumping on the watchdogs bandwagon, they are going on about PC being lead platform...I'm wondering how that is the case seeing as it took a petition from PC gamers to get the game developed for PC.

Another broken Ubisoft game is AC4. The physx doesnt work in it full stop.

Turn it on, on even the lowest setting and the frames drop leaving an awful mess of a game.

Your anecdotal evidence as an outlier doesn't debunk the fact that the vast vast majority of console babbys on forums/twitter/etc are butthurt because their mother won't buy them the overpriced alienware they think they need.

Agree. I've lost count of the amount of times I've been at a mates house playing a console game only for them to break down and end up begging their mum for a PC so they game at 1440P. Really takes the enjoyment out of gaming :(

Dear oh dear.... no more Ubi games for me, i'm not supporting a developer who takes your money and rips you off with half a product because your not on their favoured platform (Consoles)

Exactly. People know you can build a decent pc for cheaper now a days with all my console friends having a cheaper gaming pc and all my pc gaming friends having xbones or ps4s ,as have I them both. Its all about the games but the fact you can build a decent pc for a lot cheaper these days to compete with or blow away the consoles so early in the new gen means they want to keep all versions close together to make the consoles look more powerful. Its not right but it will happen. Yes I'm gutted my 780 sli won't get the work out they deserve but having just finished killzone, infamous and dr3 its not got me worried too much as they still good looking games even on the "baby" consoles. I build gaming pc's to....... play games so cutting out a major player in the making of said games because the graphical difference isn't big enough is hurting me more in the long run

Why should I? Cloud saves as come in handy couple times for me on steam.
You think it's just me? Google ubisoft save game corrupt and see countless reports.

I know its not you but all games don't have cloud saves. Just saying if turning them off is a fix, turn them off. For many years that never hindered pc gaming so having a 20kb save file on my C drive won't hurt for the odd game.
