The Division Downgraded On PC

Considering the amount of kickstarter fund that Star Citizen got and is still getting from a PC only market any Developer who thinks PC gaming is a dying trend is farting into the wind.

The thing is Star Citizen also knew how to attract the support from potential customers (and had a guru to the central point- C.Roberts). They did a very good job at taking money from the people who afforded to invest in more than the regular $50 payed for a game. $47 mil by only 487k backers. That's like paying almost $100 by person for any other game out there or sell double the copies at $50.

So, that will be around 1mil copies just to make the game alone, without "feeding" the publishers, investors and big marketing campaigns and so on.

Star citizen is its own beast though. Massive good will and a lot of nostalgia for a game thats proven to be good. Ubi's Division is a tech demo at this point and unproven plus Ubi will never get the blind loyalty those guys get and deserve in a million years

Ubisoft embodies everything that is wrong with game development at the moment. They've become wrose then EA in my eyes.

And to top it all off, the games they put out are not even that good really. Just the same unoriginal copy paste gameplay they've been pushing out with new shiney skins on. Unoriginal and boring.

This sums it up nicely http://games.on.net/2014/06/ubisoft-game-the-review/

I'm hopeful still.
Why ?

Won't modders just find work arounds for these visual downgrades, or is it too hardwired?

For me Star citizen with its PC focus and the visuals that provides is what prompts me to upgrade, rather than Ubisoft type release.

Again, they have never supported Pc gaming so its nothing new

You're only cutting off your nose to spite your face if you will potentially really enjoy one of their games. If you won't then there's obviously no issue. Although I would question why you would buy a game without reading about its mechanics first :p.

Tbf it was my first Ubisoft game since Far Cry 2 (which I hated) and also I don't really tend to read reviews that much.
I just went by how the game looked and online game play footage.
Anyway like I've said, I'm not interested in anyone's opinion on my thoughts I'm just not going to waste my money on them anymore.

I have to be honest and if it has a decent review, I will get it. If a game has playabilty, that overrules eye candy for me. I have enjoyed far more Greenlight games of late and they don't particulary have jaw dropping GFX but some of them have fantastic gameplay.

I loved the GFX in Crysis 3 but that didn't make for a playable game in my opinion.

Well then if you do no research or reading about a game you're always taking a punt (Ubisoft or not). You're free to do as you wish but that doesn't mean it makes sense.

As I said, if you choose not to buy their games and you won't/don't enjoy them either then that to me is a logical decision making your original interjection a tad obvious thing to say :p. You aren't spiting your face if you won't enjoy their games are you? My comment was more aimed at people who will / may enjoy their games but arbitrarily boycott Ubisoft and therefore miss out. Of course, that is again completely their choice but it's still arbitrary.

What? i play that quite well with maxed out IQ and FXAA, you have two Titans :p

Crysis 3 is still the best looking game on the face of the earth, by a long shot.

Yes that level of IQ is demanding but IMO that is the way it should be, more games should be like Crysis 3, genuinely push the boundaries of what Hardware is capable of for an awesome looking game, if you haven't got that hardware tone the settings down.

At this point the gameplay is more like "been there, done that" and that's ALL around the industry. At least some good graphics, sound (which is shockingly left out by most) help by putting you, the player, into that environment (a lot of times while playing Crysis or ArmA said to myself "now STALKER, Maifa/TA or Deus EX would look good on this engine!"). For me, a game played at low res, low to medium details, 30 fps on average, is a whole different experience than one played full details, 60fps stable, on multiple displays. After all, I'm after an experience with every play through, so hopefully this Division will do the talk and walk the walk.

I think people who think PC gaming will ever have much of an effect on a non-PC exclusive developer are being a bit naive.

No matter how much that game sells on PC it will likely sell 5-10 fold on one console, let alone if its released for all of them.

PC gaming is not an easily accessible form of entertainment. The hardware side pretty much cuts out most under 16's as it isn't cheap and even families who have a PC are likely to have bought it from a high street shop where the most powerful graphics you can probably get is a R270 equivalent. Enough to handle most games but not not enough to completely eclipse the newest game that's on PS4/XOne as well and that's before you take into account all the general problems associated with PC gaming. If a game is buggy on release (and most are) then the PC version will likely have the most bugs, simply as there are more variables. As much as I would love all games released to truly max my PC it isn't going to happen. And Ubisoft have downgraded so many games at this point I am a bit baffled by people assuming anything different will happen. Every PC gamer in the world complaining about there game is still probably about 20% of that games market share compared to consoles.

I built a new gaming PC after being on consoles for 5 years a couple of years ago simply as I wanted to play Battlefield with 64 players looking fantastic. I also unfortunately only bought 3 games in the last year. Sim City, Rome Total War 2 and Battlefield 4. Enough reasons to buy another console right there. I honestly felt like some of those game releases were legitimate theft as I simply had no access to the product I paid for but its now acceptable and mostly expected.

There you have it. Add the mods for different games, clearly superior IQ (even if it's as simple as res and AA+AF) etc. There isn't enough attention, not that it isn't at all.
