Best self install burger alarm

Best you can really hope for is to deter/divert the opportunist wee scrote. You'll never put off the expert thief. Fortunately the former outnumber the latter consuderably. If you can make your place a little less appealing or awkward to get into, they will move on to an easier target.

I have a box of security equipment in the loft new in box my bro has been getting me to sell it on ebay.

I have a Gaurdall PX proxy keypad new on ebay for example, I dont know if you can mix and match between systems but its a Chubb branded one

Iv already sold some PIR's, think I have a panic button, door contacts, possibly another PIR, and some other bits i need to list on there, just finding the time :/

ADT, Chubb, Yale are good names though

I thought it was too good to be true, that someone would do a search on a thread instead of asking the same question.

Looking at you, spec me a desk/chair people...

I went with a Visonic set-up, good reviews, easy install, wireless. Can cost a bit depending on what additional components you purchase (extra key fobs, additional motion sensors, door-impact sensors etc.). I can't remember which model exactly but I can check when I am home Friday if you wish.

Also, my neighbours check my house when my alarm goes off and I do the same whenever one in the street goes off. Some communities are still decent :) But the alarm can auto-dial as well so you'll be called when it is activated.

Alarm systems provide some deterrence of course, but if you want to actually stop people getting into your house, secure doors are your best investment. You'd be surprised how quickly someone can break through a typical front or back door. Also, a latch so that the door automatically locks whenever closed is a sound investment for the older and slightly forgetful parent.

chuck meat to dog or lock door in room which dogs in.dogs wont stop the people who know what they doing same as alarms wont.

It's getting more and more important to have these kinds of things now. It's not like it used to be where you'd only have to be worried if you have a specific beef with someone, I'm sure most chavs relish the thought of getting their hands on most of the things that lie around in relatively wealthy households, there can be literally thousands at steak for some poeple. These systems - even if fake and only there for appearance/deterrent - can really save your bacon in the event of a prospective break in.

I'm not really sure in a fake alarm would cut the mustard. A quick look through the window will reveal some really juicy items, and with the modern thief's appetite for risk, they'll probably take a quick bite first to test the system before gorging themselves on your hard earned items.

@troops I think you're being a little over dramatic, if you're dog did seriously rip his arm to shreds the dog would have been put down and you'd be facing charges.

no it wouldn't on his property properly contained the dog can attack a burglar if they break in as it's defending itself and the family. and would not have been a risk had the burglar not broke in.,

just like you can smash a burglars head in if you reasonably think it is the only way you can ensure your safety.

I used to work in a Juvenile Prison and not one inmate was ever put off by a dog in the house.

i wonder if that related to how they came to be in the prison. lack of care for risk of detection probably increases chance of being caught.

When was the last time you bothered to check a house when the alarm went off?

i phoned the police when one had been going off for nearly 3 hours through the night. they came looked at the door checked it was locked then went, i don;t think there's anyone in there and walked off....

tried phoning the number on the box and the company just let it ring out about 5 times.

had the council round the next working day they just climbed up cut the cables and put a note through the or saying the alarm was illegal being constant for so long and they cut it.
