Hi,

rQ7HhCT.jpg

(sorry for bad quality pic).

Still in the process of finishing this rig (awaiting SSD) but I want to keep using my ASUS Essence STX. I can either fit it above the 290x or put in a slot below the graphics card. There will still be space for the gfx card fans to breathe as the potential slot will not be right next to the gfx.

Above or below!? :)

Thanks in advance.

Right I will pop it above.

Thanks.

Oh YarwoodUK, it is the Corsair Obsidian 750D. Lovely case. I have never been able to build a rig with such good cable management :).

Below your 290.

Bottom full length pci-e slot that you can fit it into.

Above blocks heat dispersal from the core causing higher temps, there will be plenty of space for clean air to get to the fans.

Thanks, I thought it was, I currently have the 650D which is quite bad for space behind the motherboard! I think the 750D will be my next case :)

Heat rises, sure, but in a case the whole theory of "heat rises" does not apply so much.

How would the sound card block heat? Wouldn't the GPU back plate do that?

Because there is a build up of heat on the gpu, stick a lump of metal a mm or two above it, it in turn traps and absorbs said heat then conducts that heat too, causing a build up instead of heat being dispersed easier when there is clear air above it.

Yeah if he benches for 6 hours straight then maybe heat might...I mean MIGHT be a issue, but I think he's just gaming. Nothing to serious.

My sound card is right above my bottom GPU, and my top card is always bit hotter around 3-5c

That's more likely to do with the top card getting warmer air from the lower GPU than anything to do with the soundcard. Some cards even when identical models run warmer than others anyway.

When i had a xonar DX in my z77 setup, i put the audio card in the slot above the gpu. But i was running sli so it made even more sense rather than jamming it in between the gpu's. No effect on temps at all on the gpu or sound card.

Top gpu is always warmer than the bottom one shanks, I would remove that blanking plate above your bottom gpu and try the soundcard in the blue pci-e, realise you might not give a **** and leave it all as it is though.:D

@retro, he asked, I advised-having tried both above/below on my 290X.:)
