My wife is English and I'm American, we moved over here to be close to her family. My paperwork finally is going through and I'm legal to work over here. I've been in IT for the past three years doing network and systems administration and some engineering, I've got my A+, Network+, and my MCSA. However I'm trying to find the best place to look for work. In the US there's a handful of websites that are where you need to look. However I've been searching around and I'm not seeing a lot of IT work. Should I be looking at newspapers, or craigslist, monster.com? Anyone have any advice and where to find work or what sectors are hiring heavily in the tech area?

monster, totaljobs & indeed seemed pretty good when I was looking. I didn't get my job through there as I went back to my previous company, but the jobs and content looked good.

Also there's the government service: https://www.gov.uk/jobsearch. No idea if it's any good or what it actually does, but might be worth a shot.

Welcome to Engerland :D

(Oh and I live in Warwickshire, not Warwick-shire, it's not like the Shire in Lord of the Rings). It's quite close to Birmingham (not Birming-HAM) :p

This is not what I'd call a forum with a very tolerant immigration policy.

You trying to say we're all a bunch of racists?

Register with the usual jobsites and try some agencies for the time being to do a bit of networking, and welcome to old blighty

An unfortunate amount are, however it always seems to boil down to the person being visibly "foreign" which typically means non-white.

OMG send him back

I'll happily let them put up one of those Denny's churches if they serve pancakes and iced coffee as good as they do in the US.

Good luck getting a job over here,Most of us who were born here cannot find a job because we are unskilled, lazy or prefer to take handouts instead, whilst bemoaning the fact that other people - some of them not perhaps born in the UK - seem quite happy and more than able to do the very jobs I claim don't exist. :/

And, um, hi and welcome :)

What area of the country are you in? some things can be a bit different to the US i.e. the country is small enough that jobs usually only found around major metropolitan areas in the US can exist in more out the way places that still enjoy major transport and infrastructure links to the major cities.

EDIT: Thought I had a bit of a feeling of dejavu - remember a similar thread you made awhile back before moving.
