After lagging in the latest Tomb Radier on full settings I'm after something to upgrade my GTX480 for no more than £200-250. I don't care if it's ATI or Nvidia, whichever is currently best for my budget.

A nice quiet one as well please, ended up having to change my 480s cooler because of fan noise.

I'm not really into overclocking so not too bothered there. Current CPU is an i7 2600K.

Is the R9 280X still best for this price range, if so which brand is best for quietness/reliability?

Thanks!

No idea about noise. But a 280x might be the way to go. Retail around 200 new but can be had from a certain auction site for as little as 130. Will play most games on high settings.

Ok, maybe exaggerated a bit :p, it seems to get around 10fps on top all round though.

The 290 reference gets almost +40fps on Tomb Raider over the 280x which is pretty good.

I would say its between a R9 280x or a GTX 770, although the 280x seems like good value for money and the aftermarket coolers are relatively comparable. If you are willing to stretch your budget a bit more there is a 290 on offer for £270 (this week only), don't know much about the brand tho.

ps not sure if can post a link to the card i mentioned, first time poster, don't wanna break any rules lol :D

Edit: 290 Tri-x is the one to go for imo
