Forget DDR4..Meet The Memory Cube

likely to be soldered into/onto the motherboard itself,if they are reliable then I don't mind

EDIT: I bet ram manufacturers are quaking in there boots (that's if this tech actually goes mainstream)

I don't see what prevents boards from having a slotable interface for this. It cannot have a more complicated pin arrangement than a CPU that for some reason REQUIRES direct, fixed solder attachment.

Hopefully, in a few years, this will catch on. Although, soldered on? Surely, they could come up with a better delivery option??

point of note, this tech got any future maybe in gpu's? we dont mind them with soldered ram and the form is perfect.

the cache+ddr3/4 is a good idea, like the ram equivalent of an ssd/hdd combo

If done right, socketed, on GPU's, used as cache etc or even as mentioned earlier in the thread eventually integrated into the CPU and affordable could be an amazing advance.

Doesn't have the eye catching look current RAM sticks have though. They would have to do something with the aesthetics or put some kind of nice cover over them.

Most people would likely be happy with a sticker, which you could possibly do yourself.
The top-end enthusiasts and the rich will probably put a water-cooling block on it.
The likes of me will want Tactical Tracer style RGB LED patterns all over it!! :D

My problem with this like wazza pointed out, if it fails you be changing the board, for this reason I can't see this taking off tbh

Well atm it requires them to be soldered to the board, but surely it would be very easy to design them so they slotted in a socket, like cpu's do?

Yes it's got to look good or what's the point :D

I hope not, having to RMA a whole board with CPU and Ram can't be good.

Customising and upgrading components would be impossible, it would simply be a case of having to replace everything. Thoughts of Apple come to mind.
