Hey all,

for the past 2 years since moving we have had sky, last year i got rid of the sports as i never watched it but kept BT sport for UFC, its now at a stage where thats lost its buzz and it seems a long time since an amazing show so i have just cancelled both packages (after getting the Sky guy really angry by repeatedly telling him no to his offers)

Now what options do you guys/gals use for your TV fix, the 2 main contenders are currently Now TV and Netflix as both seem to have a good selection on offer (i could also get both for 1/6th of what sky was costing a month) but is there anything else i should be considering?

to be fair i dont watch much TV but the kids watch the usual Disney, Nick Jr etc... stuff and the wife watches her stuff most of which is covered by freeview and we watch a film when we get chance but the selection on Sky recently has been lacking.

any ideas?

Get an Android TV box with XBMC pre-installed and configured. Add in Netflix and the ability to continue watching the likes of BBC and ITV via their respective websites/apps. Oh and add Chromecast. ;)

I cancelled Sky a while ago and don't really miss it, when I really need to watch a game I either go to the pub or my parents house. I use Netflix a lot with Chromecast and XBMC

I have a ps4 I was going to use for Netflix and now TV is coming 'soon' but the android TV sound like it could be interesting

Can you play games / install emulators and play retro games on an android box? as this would make the purchase worthwhile

Alternatively chromecast may be an option as I have a nexus 5 & 7 to use with them and never take the tablet out meaning the wife/kids can still use it

Interesting question. As such the XBMC on the box is in fact the app itself. I would imagine if you simply exit out of the app, you can then browse Google Play for apps and games and be able to play them to your TV. They come with USB and Ethernet ports. Best thing to do is shop around and research. I only remember seeing the launcher briefly when I was helping a friend to configure theirs once.
