Ramadan Mubarak to all those who will be starting on Sunday. Nearly 19 hour fasts, should be a good one! All be it a little bit more difficult during the Summer.

Out of curiosity what happens if you live pretty far north and see very little night time?

When I used to live in North of Scotland, it could be dark for as little as a couple of hours? Is it just 'tough luck'?

Pretty much. Wherever you are situated you will have to obide by the time of dawn/dusk.

Presumably there are allowances for people living within the Artctic circle?
Otherwise anyone say in the far north of Scandinavia couldn't eat or drink at all when it's in the middle of summer.

Along that line of questioning, what would you do in very north like Greenland etc where the sun never sets at this time of year?

My old boss always use to get particularly grumpy around Ramadan, I know I'd be grumpy without food all day.

Ramadan Mubarak my fellow Muslim brothers and sisters.

It's going to be tough. Long days. Insh'Allah we will get through.

Last day tomorrow before we start fasting. Really looking forward to it.

:)

To tomorrow or the fast? :p I'd totally go to the dirtiest all-you-can-eat you can find for breakfast, lunch and dinner tomorrow.

Tomorrow will be just another day. Looking forward to Sunday when we start fasting.

As for fellow non Muslims, try not to derail the thread. Always happen. Just google Ramadan etc.

To be fair i'm not muslim I debated joining in on ramadan least for week.

Apparently fasting can be really good for us.

BBC horizon did piece on it, or Google "intermittent fasting" it has a lot of benefits it seems although the research is still in early days.

However...

LOL AT YOUR POST

What's the reasoning behind the fasting at Ramadan? And apart got the fasting, what actually happens during Ramadan? From what little I've seen of Muslims during Ramadan the breaking of the days fast seems as important, if not more sp, than the fast itself.

In short

Fasting is intended to help teach Muslims self-discipline, self-restraint and generosity. It also reminds them of the suffering of the poor, who may rarely get to eat well

Google the rest.

What% of people cheat I wonder? Quick McDonalds here, little KFC there. And remember kids - no shagging during fasting hours! OR ELSE!

I use to work with two chaps who ate all through working hours, subways/McDonalds/Burger Kings for lunch, too but as far as their families were concerned they followed it religiously.

I seem to remember reading an article in the Indepenent that said London sees its highest number of Muslim tourists (particularly from the rich Arab nations) during Ramadan as they want to escape the heat and the fasting.

It reminds me of Christian's that only go to mass at Easter and Christmas. Part time religious folk.
