Ramadan 2014

Out of curiosity what happens if you live pretty far north and see very little night time?

When I used to live in North of Scotland, it could be dark for as little as a couple of hours? Is it just 'tough luck'?

closest country time to you which have day/time cycle.

I use to work with two chaps who ate all through working hours, subways/McDonalds/Burger Kings for lunch, too but as far as their families were concerned they followed it religiously.

That's not really cheating though, clearly they are just putting up a front to their parents who take religion very seriously. If they are not fasting, then they clearly don't believe in it, so there's nothing to "cheat" at.

In short

Google the rest.

Thank you for the basic overview. My interest is genuine. I've worked in a social care setting with Muslim families and got a real family celebration vibe around Ramadan that I really liked. It seemed to me that there was more to the month than fasting to teach self discipline etc.

I've done some research but would like to contextualise that with personal experience and meaning. You could google Christmas customs, beliefs and traditions and still not really understand what Christmas is to those who celebrate it. I expect Ramadan to be similar. It's much harder to google that.

How do you disprove something that doesn't exist? You literally can't so that's not exactly the best line of argument.

Can you show me where I fielded an argument? I'm looking for I'm having a really hard time finding it (it's because I didn't).

Also, you sentence should read "How do you disprove something you can't observe", not "that doesn't exist" they aren't the same things.

Presumably there are allowances for people living within the Artctic circle?
Otherwise anyone say in the far north of Scandinavia couldn't eat or drink at all when it's in the middle of summer.

ROFL its 24h Daylight in Boden N.Sweden right now and i know there is a sizable Muslim immigrant population. I guess there will be some cheating going on.

Cant we just allow people this one thread to celebrate their way of life?

It always descends into a bash thread. I hope the mods clean the thread up and that be the end of it.

Want to discuss the pros or cons of it then start a new thread.

Ramadan Mubarak to all Muslims here, I'm not one myself but have a lot of respect for Islam, wish we had big mosques in this country, there was something quite nice about the call to prayer across the city when I was in Marrakech the other week.

Since you know this for a fact, get your proof out and you'll be rich!

The way I see it is if there is a creator (God) then why would anyone want to worship a supreme being that could have prevented such atrocities in history, yet stood by and watched from afar while people begged for God to save them yet did nothing to protect them from suffering.

Please don't throw me that free will bull****.

Why are you putting words in my mouth? You're responding to something I never said.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proof_by_contradiction

In logic, proof by contradiction is a form of proof that establishes the truth or validity of a proposition by showing that the proposition's being false would imply a contradiction.

In this case, you can say that a proposition being true will get a contradicition!

Go!

Also, Mods, please lock thread. i recall that we can not have religious threads of any type. :o

Seriously? Top thread? Not many posts?

Religious threads

Please be aware that from now on there will be no trolling of religious threads tolerated. Your beliefs may differ from those that others hold but we do ask that you show them some tolerance and do not post deliberately disrespectful or inflammatory comments about other peoples beliefs. The issue of beliefs is a sensitive one for many people and this does not mean that there can be no criticism of religion but do think about how you present your arguments.

It is unfortunate that this needs to be spelled out but if this simple request for a bit of respect and tolerance towards others and their beliefs is not followed then suspensions and bans will follow. It would be preferable for all parties if these measures could be avoided so please show a bit of courtesy and tolerance towards others. Thank you.

Edit: Today Matthew, I'll mostly be defending religions beginning with the letter "M"
Edit2: Which obviously makes no sense as Muslim isn't a religion...
