Ramadan 2014

A quick google tells me that in the Arctic circle they follow the fasting times for Mecca.

If that's the case, why follow any times at all and just do it when you feel it's right?

That's pretty much what they are doing. Better yet, why doesn't everyone follow the timings for Mecca?

They are making it up as they go along, so why doesn't everyone else?

Good luck to everyone enduring starving season.

And why does everyone feel the need to talk about Christmas in a defensive posture to justify other Religous beliefs? Politically correct dingbats.

Christmas is hardly a religious celebration anyhow.

For most it's a family occasion + commercial holiday. A time when people feel pressured into buying **** for others that they don't really want ;)

And lots of good food, drink, and the same old crap on TV. I miss the yearly reruns of Indy Jones.

Agreed. But would you get that impression if you just googled it? And if you did would you understand why Christmas is a big deal? I doubt it.

One can argue though that some people put on weight over Christmas, degenerate I know, but like already said it's an enjoyable time for those who like socialising.

Although I don't do religion myself, I see Ramadan as a test for willpower, like doing a sponsored hike or trip over a period of days/weeks for charity.

Ramadan Mubarak to all those who will be starting on Sunday. Nearly 19 hour fasts, should be a good one! All be it a little bit more difficult during the Summer.

I fasted a few days this week, wasn't too bad. I could only have one meal after Maghrib and just water until the next fast started.

Ramadan Mubarak (i hope thats right :)), hats off to anyone willing to fast on religious principles it seems some on here have no principles at all.

I have principles. I don't bow down to a sky fairy that thinks it's wise to starve myself in the middle of summer. Instead, I try to stay healthy to raise my son and keep people around me alive.

If your thirsty and hungry, you can't be at your best to help people can you.

You can be grateful for what you have without starving yourself you know. Like you can a sense of morality without Religion as well.

Good luck to anyone doing this.... and what I also don't understand is the indulgent binges of food at the end. Doesn't that defeat the entire purpose of the event?

That part is mentalist.

don't get me wrong im an atheist but i respect all beliefs, i don't mock them unless they are being forced on me then they are fair game. Saying Ramadan Mubarak is the same as saying happy Christmas for me, i appreciate other peoples happiness.

Look at this a comedy OK! :)

On Sunday I will be indulging in a bacon butty, its a Sunday thing you know. :p

I dunno... I just dont know! but each to there own and goodluck. ;)

Saying that there was one time I did not agree......

I used work for the civil service and one time there was ramadan and
the girl was pregnant, she looked really bad at the end of the day.

Which I thought was wrong because the child didnt have clue, so why
impose on a unborn child and cause suffering??

Serious question...

Is ramadan good for you if you pregnant?

It's not bad for you per se, but common sense is needed, as is doctor's advice, if you're ill, pregnant, breastfeeding, old, etc.

What's a sky fairy?

Pretty much. Wherever you are situated you will have to obide by the time of dawn/dusk.

that's not true - some people will follow say daylight hours in Mecca etc... its literally impossible for some Muslims living in Scandinavia - they either have to make an adjustment/workaround of they'll die from not eating/drink at all thanks to 24hour sunlight....
