Motorola Moto G - new budget smartphone champion?

Every app is constantly crashing on my i9000 now, its served me well.

Managed to order a sim free 4g for £129.50 because I had some clubcard vouchers :)

Could have saved yourself £8+ if you went the unlock route!!
Ohh well still a stonking deal :D Can't wait for mine :-)

A question for the rooting experts among you??

I have managed to find a rooting guide/method but it seems the info has come from someone doing it in the US, does that matter? Should/will it work on the UK tesco Moto G 4g LTE ???

Cheers for any info, below is the guide/method I'm talking about.

First unlock the bootloader via the motorola website:

Then download the following files:

http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU
http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/xt1032/openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-xt1032.img
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979

Transfer the SuperSU.zip onto the moto g phone

(Install ADB onto your windows rig if not already installed)

Place ''openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-xt1032.img'' into the windows folder that ADB installs ''fastboot'' into

Now enable USB debugging in ''{ } Developer options'' on your Moto G 4G LTE (Settings --> About phone ---> Now tap ''Build number'' 7 times to reveal Developer options in settings)

With USB debugging enabled connect the Moto G to your PC with a USB cable

Now open a command prompt and change directory to that which contains ''fastboot'' and ''openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-xt1032.img''

First check that ADB is communicating with your Moto G 4G LTE by running the following command:
fastboot devices
It should return something like ''TA95000WAX'' if it says anything about ''unauthorized'' device then check your Moto G screen and confirm authorization.

O.K, now we need to reboot the phone into bootloader mode, use the following command to do this @ command prompt:
adb reboot bootloader
Your Moto G should now reboot into bootloader mode and STOCK recovery will be displayed on your Moto G's screen

We now need to get TWRP recovery running on the Moto G, use the following command to do this @ command prompt:
fastboot boot openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-xt1032.img
You should now no longer see STOCK recovery on your Moto G's screen and instead TWRP's recovery :-)

Finally we need to flash SuperSU.zip , do this ON THE PHONE using TWRP's install option and browsing to where you placed SuperSU.zip on your phone.
Once flashed select TWRP's reboot to system option and unplug phone from PC.

You are now rooted :-)

I highly recommend that you install xposed framework and mavity box, mavity box is AMAZING! :-)

Seems right, but I'd be wary of sticking a recovery designed for the xt1032 (international variant) on the xt1045.

Yeah that was my worry :(

I think I'll wait for someone else to be the guinea pig :p, shouldn't take long for a solution to be released if it doesn't work considering Tesco's must have shifted a shed load :D

Picked up the 4g yesterday. I've come from a well loved/battered to near death Desire HD. The screen is amazing incomparision, its responsive and phsycial light. Hopefully battery life will be a little better too.

One of the reasons for waiting for this version was so that I could add in a 32gb memory card. I've done that and then discovered that Spotify has a 3,333 track download limit. Bah. Will look into moving that over to Google Play instead.

Bit miffed that Motorola assist doesn't have Drive mode. I'm also very confused by car mode, it doesn't seem to do anything.

4g doesn't seem to penetrate my house, but is available just outside, but I've not tested the speed yet. Hopefully the coverage will increase.

Overall I'm happy, keeps me on my cheap rolling sim only contract, and hopefully the phone will last at least two years.

Got dispatch notification, going to send my old phone into fonebank, quoted me £31.50, should buy me an official flip case and 32gb sd card :)

anyone who's on the non-lte moto g, i highly recommend this rom/kernel config...

Tempted to sell my current moto and get the 4g version. The size is just great and the screen, even at 20% brightness is crystal clear in sunlight.

Picked mine up from Tesco last night for my dads birthday pressie, his first android phone.
Spent 2 hours setting it up and showing how to use it.
He walks outside to go home with it balanced on top of my moms coat.....
My mom knocks him and it falls on my slabs and the screen smashes lol :D
Not even 4 hours old :(

Really nice phone though for the money. My misses is getting one now too. Will be a nice upgrade from her SGS2.

Got to buy a new screen and digitiser of ebay to repair my dads now. £30 odd quid. Oh well.

by sunlight he means moonlight :D

moonlight... behind cloud :p

as a comparison, i was using mine at the pub the other day, 100% brightness and it was still a bugger to see as i was sat in direct sunlight. the screen being as reflective as it is definitely doesn't help matters, but on 20% brightness? no way lol

Thats a shame. On mine I dont use more than 20 ever. no need. :D
Really impressed with it.
