What replacement for my 6950, R9 290?

I just really cant decide what card to replace my 6950, the 2Gb version with. I'm starting to feel that its starting to not cope. And i just cant decide whether i should pay the extra and get a R9 290 over a 280 or the 280X. Im currently gaming on a 1920 x 1200 screen with a extra side monitor thats just 1440 x 900, witch is not used during gaming.

I can afford a 290, but do i really need it?

Spec is a i5-3570K at 4.2GHz and i have a 700Watt OCZ PSU.

On my own im just useless at making decisions.

280 or 280x would do you nicely but if you decide to go dual monitor gaming then the 290 would be my choice.

Well the 290 is more future proof. Just don't get the reference cooler one. My god that thing is loud and hot!!

That why there are a lot of reference cooler 290 on the bay then. Better not touch them then. And it dosnt look like i can get much for a old 6950 ether.
