Recently sold my car, and while deciding what new car I'm going to get next, I bought this 2005 VW beetle to see me through the summer.

To be honest; I've never really liked them, and dare I say, I thought it was a bit of a Girls car. Having driven it though' I'm really liking it. Its very nice to drive and surprisingly loves back roads ;)
It's only done 22,000 miles and one owner from new a full service history which helped sway me into buying.

Looking at it though can't help be feel the wheels look a bit lost in those arches think they are 16" they are also starting to peel. What size can I go up to without any other changes to car. I was thinking maybe just going up to 17" or would I want to go bigger.

Suggestions appreciated on style and size
Thanks ;)

The wheels suit it and you claim to only be using it for a few months. Why waste time and money fitting big wheels to it?

I agree. The money could be spent on the car that is purchased after "the summer".

Well the car owes me £4,800. It's just in my nature to want it perfect while I have it. If you take into account £400 or so for alloys I think I'll still be able to get money back. And have the pleasure of passing it on to someone else in perfect condition.

In saying that my daughter is asking if she can have it when she passes test. So possibility depending on her paying insurance.

So jokes aside any constructive suggestions ;)

I would use any money for a service, to ensure the roof is water tight and works as it should and if there is any aftermarket kit for iphone to audio available then consider this. These will help any future sale, or without them may hinder.

Alloys look VW originals and aren't overly small or offensive so I'd be keeping them. If you do give it to your daughter then to refurb them looks easy enough for those kerbing moments which are bound to occur.

This TBH, anything else is a waste of cash.

I bought my missus a mellow yellow cab in January.

It is a total girls car, but it's not bad to drive and they really last well.

I agree with everyone, the alloys on it are fine, and suit its target market, if you go bigger, it will look at odds and put of buyers. If you want to harden it up you want to get sportier looking bumpers, small rear spoiler with large alloys, there some good examples on the vw forums, but it isn't cheap.

Worthy things to do:
- I fitted a new unit with iPod/Bluetooth, which sounds a lot better than stock and plays MP3s as well.
- Changed the pollen filter which had a forest load of leaves in it
- used the spray lithium grease to do the hood mechanism/catch and seat mechs
- Got a VW specialist to grease all window runners/guides
- Had a full service inc gearbox oil
- cleaned/reproofed the roof so water now beads off it

Granted you'd with such low mileage is probably good for most of that, replacing the stereo is probably the biggest improvement.
