Old tyres still useable?

Have an old set of alloys someone at work is interested in, the problem is they have been stored in my garage for about 4 years!

I remember the tyres were nearly new when I took the wheels off the car and sold it.

The tyres have been stored on the rims, pumped up and the wheels stacked on top of each other.

What are the chances the tyres are still usable?

will be fine, check if there is cracking in the tyres and if so dont use them but its pretty unlikely there will be.

Do they actually? I will be digging them out tomorrow so will have a look. Is it just moulded onto the tyre somewhere?

Tyres have a date of manufacture stamped after the DOT marking, four digit code showing week and year of manufacture.

The rubber tends to deteriorate and harden over time but if they have been in a dark place and inflated they should be fine unless they are really old i.e. 10 years, personally I would give them a visual inspection and just make sure there are no cracks or other untoward signs.

If they've been stored in the dark they'll likely be fine, just do a visual check to make sure there's no cracking. Have a look for the date of manufacture to see how old they actually are.
