Guys i'm so torn between a new rig or a PS4.

This is the spec of the rig i can have:

Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Processor i7-4790 (3.6GHz) 8MB Cache

Memory (RAM)
16GB KINGSTON DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (2 x 8GB)

Graphics Card
2GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 770 - 2 DVI, HDMI, DP - 3D Vision Ready

Hard Drive
250GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD, SATA 6Gb/s (upto 540MB/sR | 520MB/sW)

Power Supply
CORSAIR 650W VS SERIES™ VS-650 POWER SUPPLY

Operating System
Genuine Windows 8.1 64 Bit

blah blah blah ......

obviously the PC comes in at around £985 for me and the PS4 is £350.

BUT have you seen the price of the games for the PS4? good lord lol..

i keep my computers 3 years these days with no tinkering. (prefer to just buy a new PC).

***what i'm really asking is
will the above PC spec be able to play cross platform games as good as the PS4 in say like 18months time?****

PS-i know i will miss some PS4 exclusives but i can live with this.

cheers guys.

You missed out they key variable - monitor and its resolution.

Most things will be playable at 1080p, but I reckon you could get a GFX card with more RAM to help you futureproof.

Still no idea how that spec gets you to nearly ~£1k though.

Wind that i7 spec down to an i5, and you'll save at least £100, while losing practically nothing.

Do some direct comparisons of i7 vs i5 models in gaming, and you'll find i7 doesn't provide any benefits - the real bonus is for other tasks, such as running virtual machines... which you probably won't be doing.

Also, get the PC. Because PC is better in every conceivable way.

I compared all the parts of the PC (built elsewhere) to the individual parts bought at overclockers and its like £28 more expensive to have it built.
(i didnt list every part here, dvd drive, mobo , card reader etc)

I havent got the time or the patience to build it myself.

I already have my 1080p monitor.

PS- i'd love overclockers to build me the rig rig but it comes to over £100 more.
than a competitor sadly.

nice one i shall take that onboard mate thanks :)

If you're just after a PS4 equivalent, then the spec can be wound down a lot (and still be fine for gaming for 3 years).

go for an i5 instead of the i7,
8GB ram instead of 16GB,
A GTX 760 instead of the 770
A 500w PSU
And a smaller SSD, maybe coupled with a HDD for mass storage.

That's ^ obviously way more powerful than a PS4, but will easily keep up with PC games for a few years (not at ultra settings - but the PS4 runs at equivalent of low/medium and 30fps)

I7 is more future proof with the consoles having 8 cores. Some games do benefit from it already and no doubt more will follow. If anything dial it down to the 4770k

But why build a PC thats going to run games the same as a PS4? Either build a pc that will runs games well like you planned or buy a PS4

I've just had this same conundrum. PS4 or PC (less powerful than what you're looking at).

Then I realised I wasn't an idiot, and went for the PC. :p

Because I listen to the OP's requirements, and note his dilemma on the cost of the package:

.

And the outline PC I specc'ed will outperform the PS4 forever.
