Has anyone here ever attended any courses on learning to draw, I like drawing, the thing is I am pretty bad at it and would like to learn, is drawing something your either good or bad or can you learn to do it?

The local college has a learn to draw course for £80 has anyone attended anything like this or taught themselves to draw?

I needed to draw for parts of my Uni. degree. I was and always have been terrible. I'm of the impression that with art, you've either got it or you haven't. And if you haven't, it'll take you a very long time to get it.

Someone can probably prove me wrong, however.

I would love to be able to draw too. At school the art teacher would just plonk a bowl of fruit or an old shoe in front of us and say draw this. There was no technical help or critique ever. Talk about stealing a living!

I cannot write neat let alone draw, and no class on the planet will change that.

As above you either have it or you dont. I dont unfortunately! :(

Talent does help of course, but it's like most skills in that practice makes perfect (or at least helps you improve :D).

Yeah, there are techniques to drawing that we laymen have no idea even exist. It's like layering colours on a painting...I mean, surely you just paint the damn colour you want!!!

I don't doubt that you need talent, though. I knew some incredible artists at school, and I was very envious at how easy they made everything seem.

Those guys at school obviously had a head start in terms of talent, though I'd bet good money that they spent a lot of time drawing, drawing and drawing some more.
I used to be one of those guys and I can testify that if you don't use it, you lose it :)

It's kind of like watching professional snooker. Those guys have talent and make it look so easy, but they put in endless hours at the practice table to get to where they're at.

I'm a designer so need to draw etc, went through all the usual stuff at school primarily focusing on 'technical drawing' but decided to do a foundation degree in art and design before going off to uni to get my 'inner artist' lol

Honestly in my opinion - if you can't draw it's not ideal but it's not the end of the world, you will have a bigger learning curve than someone who's naturally talented obviously but drawing can literally be boiled down into key elements. You'd be surprised by how many things are formed out by using circles as the base template.

If I was you I'd go and take a look at some of the starter classes on youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewMksAbgdBI for example) and see how you go. If you get on alright with youtube then you can look at the course, if you're not getting anywhere after the absolute basics then the likelihood is that drawing isn't for you :)

My friends tell me I'm quite talented. Here's my most recent creation.

I call it: Fecal Mail.

Have you considered doing this with a brush and canvas and selling them on ebay? I bet some rich asian poop fetish guy will probably buy it for a grand. Someone local does artwork as they like to call it and they sell for £500 and Fecal Mail puts them to shame.

Isn't that what all school art teachers do? :p

Reminds me of a video I watched on the Internet recently... Except it was an odd round letterbox leading into what looked like a public toilet? very odd

Our Art teacher was a PITA because if you did a really realistic painting you got marked down, but I simply made a load of splatter and lines and made up this BS meaning and got full marks! "Ah yes I can see what you're trying to show here..."

there are couple of meetup groups, you could start from there.. (Bonus points you also get to draw "life drawings" (is that whats it called? Read: draw naked people)..

(and no I havent joined before you ask)
