By Jove! Been smoking a quarter of a century and never managed to give up more than a day or two, had some aborted attempts to cut down with cheap nicotine inhalers and supermarket e-capes - but this time feels like i'm almost done.

Got an ego starter kit a month back and managed to cut back a bit with it, but picked up an Aerotank mini to go on the top and suddenly it tipped over to being better to vape than smoke. Still on a couple of regular fags a day, but they are just tasting rancid and i'm associating them with having a horrible taste in my mouth now. Got some lovely Plantain de Flambe juice from "The Vial"

I need to break the first fag of the day, first Vape is horrible - but I think that's dehydration.

Good on you and keep it up!

I'd advise to do some research and move over to mech mods etc, that way it will become more of a hobby and you'll have no inclination to smoke at all!

I think it's typical to have a few analog cravings in your first few months vaping, but just remember you can pool that money over a couple of weeks or even a few days depending on how many you get through and get a new shiny shiny! :)

I've got my eye on a provari for home use, with maybe a bigger tank but still need something slimmer for generic taking to work and out and about use that's got to be ego sized. Maybe a twist next. As a newbie, I can't recommend the Aerotank mini enough.

Not sure if my Vamo is buggered or if I'm doing something stupid.
Basically, all was going well for the last couple of days until out of the blue this afternoon, it stops working and the display says there's a short.

The original coil looks fine and I strip and clean it anyway before making an even better coil than my first which definitely isn't in contact with anything except the screws and it still says "short" for this and the following attempt.

Obviously, it's hard for you to tell without seeing it first hand and I've since chucked the last two coils, but I was wondering if this a common issue/fault or something?

I'll have another go and post a pic if it's still doing it. In the meantime... :)

Here you go. I thought I'd make a slightly larger coil just to see what happens, so ignore that if looks a bit big.

Does that look like it should be shorting or should I be looking elsewhere?

It's a Nucleic DNA 30. A guy on UKVapers makes them, but he doesn't make them anymore. You might be lucky and find one in the classifieds though.

Uncle Petey you don't happen to have something else you didn't build you can try to rule out the Vamo? Have you tried checking what happens without a coil? Could be the oring in the 510 thread / atties connection too. I had one split on me before that caused intermittent shorting (basically the connection touched the threading sometimes)

So basically I bought a £10 pen from the bay, just so I could experiment with different flavours etc, is there any signs I should be looking for that could potentially harm me? Just because it's a cheap pen so things could go wrong? I notice that the clear class tube steams up and gets hot, is this normal? Also when I'm changing liquids from one flavour to another do I simply just put the new flavour in ? Or do I have to wash it out?

YEAH! I got the bugger working again :)

Basically just disassembled the Kayfun base and put it back together again (unscrewed the main screw and re-seated the large base with the plastic insulator (positive?)) and it isn't shorting anymore.
Still have no idea what the issue was though...

Without the coil, it still says short when I push the button.
The Kayfun is the only thing I have unfortunately as I only started this a couple of days ago :D

Sounds like there is a short in the kayfun itself some place. It could be the 510 contact or one of the wire posts. I ain't used a kayfun myself, so don't know it very well. I believe the kayfuns can be stripped right down so I would suggest doing this and checking the orings / insulators. I've heard of some of the kayfuns clones having melted insulators but since you will not be sub-ohm on a vamo it is unlikely that.

Shame you learnt the hard way you should always have a backup plan. An ego and some tank like the evod / protank mini is a good backup. Most folks going onto kayfuns and the like have these are they started on out an ego of some kind.

So it was the 510 connection just like I suggested. My above post still stands, get yourself some backups.

Oh, definitely.
Like I say, I'm only 2 days into this and since I really do want to give up a ridiculous smoking habit and I do enjoy a nice toke, I figured (and based on advice here) that it would be better to grab something decent straight off the bat. I actually had my eye on an ego kit to begin with actually :)

I fully intend to grab another atty or two in the near future in case anything like this happens again.

I'd have a backup battery too. My old vamo still works but the screen doesn't. Means I can use it if I want / have to but hard to change anything on it. I have a load of egos from around 4 years ago when I started, was about all there was back then outside of home made / small batch mechs.

I feel you were pretty brave to jump right into a kayfun. At least you have a Vamo so have protection against shorts. Could have been nasty if that was on a mech.

That's exactly why I got the Vamo: Noob friendly :) Also got a couple of 18650's, so should be ok for the moment.

I'm not so sure it was brave tbh. More a case of thinking that I'm probably going to end up with one anyway, so why not skip the middle man and get on with it? It was either vaping or smoking since cold turkey isn't realistically on the cards.

Apart from the issue today, it's all pretty simple if you can follow instructions. Everything else is just a learning experience :)

How has it been going for you mate? I am still stinkie free for nearly 18 days and not looking back. Hope you are free of the smokes! :)

Sorry should have been more clear. I meant another device in case something goes wrong with the Vamo. Also what you going to do if you misplace it? Better to have backups for when you go to the pub and don't come home with what you left with. I normally take an ego to the pub when I go (not that often) just in case it turns into one of them weekends :D

I'm buying a cheap mech for my out and about gear today. Ego style just ain't cutting it.

I have my MVP for out and about as the battery life on it is untouchable. Would highly recommend one to anyone, just starting out, or a bit more experienced. Okay, so the battery isn't replaceable, so it has a finite lifespan, but for the money, they are a great little device.

My Vamos are back-ups now. They are great devices, but have other devices that I like better. My SID has been getting more use of late. It is a nice wee device too. And the Nucleic DNA30 is a little beast of a mod. But it's too nice for out and about, so I rarely take that anywhere now.

Mech mods are key for sub-ohm vaping though. I now have 4 Nemesis for such encounters, and a Siam Mods Hex. Fantastic little devices. Should really get something different though and expand my horizons.
