So I am quite looking forward to seeing this K95 RGB as I read that the new design should dramatically cut down on LEDs dying through electro static discharge as the LEDs are now built into the board differently.

At the moment I'm on my 3rd K95 as the LEDs just randomly die on me for no reason even though it is sat in a static free environment.

Does anyone have more information as to how the LEDs differ from the standard K95 to the new RGB K95 i.e ESD shielding etc...?

I did ask Corsair about a week ago but have had no reply.

They are built into the switches as opposed to being an extra at the top. Not sure about the technical reasons why that stops the esd issue though

Read the text, I think what it's saying is there's a recess for a smd-led which is attached to the board? This looks to be a different type of led than what's used on the older K95, maybe it's a more reliable type?

I have had my K95 for a while, no issue with dead LED's
If I remember rightly, the corsair ones will have the light either inside or under the key switch.

I'm waiting for the K70 with RGB LEDs to make an appearance. Hopefully it won't break the bank.

As for LEDs on Corsair keyboards dying, I did a bit of research on this a couple of months back, and it seemed that this was pretty much exclusive to keyboards with blue LEDs. As to whether this had anything to do with the way they were mounted, or whether the blue LEDs were more prone to failure is unclear.

Corsair didn't supply any explanation of the blue LED problem at the time. All that happened was Corsair (Edit: K70) keyboards with blue LEDs were withdrawn from production and slowly started disappearing from stock everywhere. I'm not sure about other models, I was only interested in the K70 design.

I'm more and more convinced the leds are not mounted in the switch as has been reported but mounted on the pcb beneath the switch and the switch casing just acts as a lightpipe just like you can see in this promo image.

Which is fine by me if that's the case I would still believe them on the improved reliability of their leds until shown otherwise but it would mean there has been some misinformation going around that the leds are inside the switches.

Would like to be corrected on this if I'm wrong as having replaceable switches with the led inside would be great instead of having to send back the whole board.

Yeah pretty sure of it now, so I guess the led will technically be inside the switch lol but soldered to the pcb

Edit: Ok so it was on Corsairs blog the whole time "...it utilizes a clear housing and will instead use a SMD LED mounted to the PCB of the keyboard..." lol

I got the idea from Linus tech tips preview that the led was mounted in the switch instead of the pcb :o

This happened to me earlier today and I actually have 2 dead LEDs on my standard K95. The dead LEDs are only on the G1 and G12 keys but still it's quite annoying. I've only had the keyboard for about 8 months now so I'll see if I can get a replacement.

Annoyingly I've had "Repaired" boards sent to me and they have failed within 2-3 weeks, Insist on a brand new one as their refurbished ones are guaranteed failures.

I experienced my first dead LED today on my K95, although it is on the numpad, it is still more than a little annoying, had I known that this were such a problem, I would have been much more reluctant to spend a hundred and twenty quid on it. The fact that this is such a widespread issue, suggests a fundamentally flawed design, and one that should not be on sale.

Much as I love corsair stuff usually, this is much less than satisfactory in my opinion.

Well yesterday I took the keyboard back to PC World and they are unable to get any more K95's in stock for the foreseeable future, so I brought the keyboard back home to try and RMA it with Corsair and their support site simply doesn't register with anyone.

Decided to go to their official forums and more than half of the threads in the keyboard section are customers with the K95's, K90's, and K70's with dead LEDs, including the refurbs and the replacements!

So this has got me thinking, PC World currently have the ROCCAT Ryos MK Pro in stock so do you think I should replace my keyboard with that? PC World were offering a replacement of any keyboard in store + in store credit on the remaining cost but I Don't know what this keyboard is like.

Could be worth it, I personally don't like Roccat after they told me to go to the retailer after I had the product for 14 months so cba to get my headset fixed, just kept my ATH-M50's instead. It is meant to be a really nice board though.

Well it has just happened to this Roccat now too! I think the Ryos MX is the same as the MK Pro just without the LEDs so I think I'm just going to say goodbye to LEDs from now on.
