Recommend me a good Car Wax

fk1000p all the way

i originally bought it one winter for its durability but now i use it all year round

stupidly easy to apply and water just rolls straight off it. lasts ages. smells like the chemicals that it is but who cares about that

even looks good... tried allsorts of fancy 'show' waxes over the top of it or alongside it and can hardly tell the difference.

after over 2 years i must still have over 90% of the tin left too... use it on paint , glass , wheels , exhaust. its basically awesome

started topping it up with 425 recently... too easy

You can tailor the wax to your requirements based on the model you go for.

Choose what scent you want, how strong you require it to be if any and the colour.

Highly respected wax that a lot on detailing world enjoy.

I'm currently using Chemical guys 50/50 Connoisseur Paste Wax LTD Edition Version 2, the first time I used this it had a nice wet look but didn't really last too long, I've now applied another 2 coats and will see how it lasts. I may go for a further 2 coats just to be OTT

Collinite 476 is noware near as good as Autoglym HD (buy it off ebay for £25)

Tests shown on detail world says Autoglym HD out lasted Collinite 476 by a big margin.

Waxes are old hat, especially the ever reliable colli 476 :p

Sonax Polymer Net Shield and a sprayer of their Brilliant Shine Detailer to top it up.

Nothing else comes close, just watch the videos on YouTube and read up on detailing world to see how it puts most other sealant/waxes to shame. The hydrophobic properties are ridiculous and is something I have found a wax can't compete with.

It's also great value!

Great product, but a PITA to get off, if you dont know what you are doing

Easy enough, although I can see how special people don't get it.

Spray on, wipe around and straight off, whilst working on say 1/4 a panel. Too much on and it dries hard then spray on a little more to break it down again.

Takes less time to apply than a wax from my experience.

Waxes are subjective, subject to your budget and the finishing you want.
Everyone recommends the ones he's used because he finds it good but no one does much in a way of comparison. Forums has people or detailers who actually knows.

Some on this forum knows wax as something better than cooking oil you wipe over quickly. Others is something that they spend hrs or days over to get the results required for their pride and joy. If you are the latter, don't forget the prep, it is the most inportant thing imo. Clense, clay and wax.
Polymer vs carnurba wax. Pros and cons of each. Type of Shine or longetivity etc.

Above mentioned Autoglym HD and Collinite has good reputation.
I have used many from cheaper liquid type waxes to v v hard waxes (hard work to apply) with varying results.

Personally I am currently using Zymol Glasur which is good enough but am not saying it is the best as there are always better waxes but it is one of the best I have used to date. I prefer the result from carnuba. I find polymers a touch shiny and can be quite reflective (very much a personal choice) and prefer waxes that are less shiny but more depth showing the colours more.

Best thing is to decide your budget first, then pick the wax. Don't forget the budget for the prep even if it means a cheaper wax as it is paramount.

Collinite 845 Liquid Insulator Car Wax

^ This what they use on boats, planes etc. Used it on all my cars so far, and it is very resilient. Lasts upto 6-7months, and stops corrosive bird poo from penetrating through to destroy the lacquer and paint. Has an awesome shine to it.

It isn't in pretty packaging, nor is it marketed around and rammed down your throat like Autoglym and Dodo are, but it delivers. You need to heat up the bottle as the wax is fairly solid at room temperature.

Usually fairly cheap from a certain rainforest (<£25).

--------------------

It is available for under £20, good value for money multi purpose wax that works well.

IMO the other 2 'ram down your throat' waxes are better but more expensive!

A well prepped paintwork will look good regardless of waxes.
