Guy Hulks out and saves man from burning car

Quick get the kryptonite before he gets out of control.

Apparently this sort of thing is quite feasible in times of extreme stress. I assume adrenalin.

I have read up on it just felt I would share something that was decent instead of the usual doom and gloom that is spread via the news :(

The mental blocks put in place by our minds when it comes to how much strength we can exert are massive, that's why people having fits could quite happily chomp clean through a finger as there's no longer the brain saying you can't exert that much power or you'll injure yourself.
Same thing with massive amounts of adrenaline or other drugs going through your system, if you've ever had dealings with trying to subdue people high on certain drugs you'll encounter the same problem it's like trying to fight a bear.

from reading it it douns like all he did was bend the flimsy frame aroudn the window down rather than the whole door, that's only 2 thin bits of sheet steel.

Just thinking aloud but would the car being on fire make the door easier to bend like that? Due to the metal being hot and all.

Yeah, thats what I thought.

A great effort obviously, kudos to the guy for saving a life, but the media seem to be exaggerating somewhat

i can believe people can be stronger than they think they are, but not sure i believe in a physical sense that a normal guy can be quite that strong. but i suppose we really need to have our backs against the wall to find out.

If it was that hot he would have burned his hands significantly!

What's also buried in the article is that the guy was eventually pulled through the window, which begs the question. Why didn't the guy just smash the window with a stone/anything rather than bend the doorframe. :p

Obviously it's because the benefit of hindsight is so great but still fun to ask...

I'm not 100% sure if its remotely true but has anyone had experience with Down syndrome sufferers and how freakishly strong they are?

Could it be plausible that our brain makes a normal person afraid of lifting large weights in order to protect ourselves from damage (bone/muscle). Obviously in the case like linked in the wiki page adrenaline overpowering the brains ability to hold us back.

Or maybe I'm just full of **** and should go back to bed :D

Arrgh how could I forget the burns haha dammit bangs goes that theory. Gloves?

I once saw someone the police had to deal with (who was later reported to having been high on PCP) smashed through the windscreen of their car with his bare first and took about half a dozen officers to subdue. (before the days of tazers).

Like I said if you've ever tried to control someone high on drugs, even the smallest person can take a couple of big guys to pin them down.
It's amazing the strength that is locked up in us, not so much when you're trying to work against it though!

probably still takes a lot of force before the window smashs though unless he smashed it first

Cool guy and a hero and everything, but I've done that when drunk - no 'hysterical strength' required. You don't have to bend the frame very far till the glass shatters. Before you ask yes it was my car! Was a crappy old pug 205 though - probably nothing to it compared to some US SUV though.

I have (or had) a relative that did something like this... held up a mine shaft that collapsed whilst people got out.

He got out, but then died a few weeks later after his body packed up from the stress. So be careful out there... ;)

i thought down syndromes typically resulted in very poor muscle tone/quality hence why you always see the charities/carers bringing them to the gym or swimming baths etc as they need dedicated resistance exercise to maintain enough muscle.
