Some screenshots from my GTX 690s running the MLL bench maxed out inc PhysX. The bench is rubbish on every setup @4K but I thought I would post the screenshots.

Looks nice Kaap, but the blurring of the image ruins it for me. I assume it's FXAA or post processing or something. Turn it off, if you can. :)

I was not that impressed with the screenshots to be honest, that is one of the main reasons I posted them.

4K seems to get a lot of attention for it's image quality but I have found on a lot of occasions it is no more impressive than 1600p. Having said that Civ5 does look better.:D

I need to get back playing MLL and was loving it at 4K. Tough cookie to run at that res mind but with the odd AA dropped, it runs very nicely.

What games have you run out of VRAM on with your 690s?

Nearly everything but I would have to lower the settings anyway to get playable fps with the GTX 690s. Surprisingly MLL only uses about 1.85gb fully maxed @4K.

What has come as more of a shock is the number of times I have run out of VRAM on the 290Xs -

Thief
BF4
Crysis 3
Hitman

To name a few.

The Titans on the other hand are not quite as fast @4K but their 6gb VRAM allows them to run everything.

Aye, was saying to Neil the other day Metro Last Light is very surprising on the VRAM front :) Had no problems with it in Tri SLi on my 780s

@ Matt FXAA doesn't blur anything

Didn't take much to push the Ti over the edge. In Tri SLi with Battlefield 4 I had to drop to high settings from Ultra, with no AA to stop hitching.

Not good enough for 1,500 quids worth of GPUs

I have had a few problems with 4K but I have also found it very interesting. Using 4K with max settings has thrown up some interesting things -

Power consumpsion is higher than at lower resolutions as the CPU does not hold the GPUs back. My Titans have never had a problem with a EVGA1500 watt PSU (it can handle peaks of 1650 watts). When I benched Sky Diver @4K the Titans demolished the PSU very easily.

6gb is the absolute minimum for max settings and when the next gen arrives I would say 8gb.

4 Highend Maxwell cards will not be enough to max settings with the next gen of games.

Connectors are not all the same efficiency - some work better than others.

Where the GPUs work harder they produce more heat.

Reviewers need to test graphics cards a lot harder as it is a lot more stressful for them @4K even using stock clocks and any weaknesses show up. For example repeatedly hitting the 4gb buffer will crash the system.

It is more difficult to overclock @4K in some things but easier in others. Removing the CPU botleneck improves stability but also allows the GPUs to get stressed more.

The good news is I don't have to run the CPU any higher than 4.0ghz.

If anyone else has any more pros and cons when using 4K please add them to the thread as someone else may find them useful.

That point in bold alone is enough to stop me gaming at 4k

Kaap you played with the 8Gb Sapphire Toxic 290x's?

No but now I have a 4K screen I wish mine were 8gb cards.

For one or two cards 4gb is ok but with three or four cards you can really push the settings but then find a lot of stuff using all the VRAM.
