Keep getting this in the control panel , I've reseated the ram and re set bios settings , seems to fix it for a while but then after a while it keeps going back to same message , any ideas ? Intel i7 930 @ 4ghz with 6gb ram (3x2gb) .. R9 270x 4gb x 2

what board?

bent cpu pins
too tight a cpu cooler
flexing motherboard, cracked or damaged copper traces inside the boards pcb can all cause that issue

It's 64 bit windows .. And the CPU and cooler have been sat there for 4 years ? Would I need to renew thermal paste if I took CPU cooler off ?

yes if its been on for 4 years

when you reseat the ram its flexing the board slightly, thats why its intermittent in working/not working

id also try a quarter turn undone on each cpu cooler mounting screw

Just got home and turned computer on and it's fine again now , it's really intermittent ! Think I'll wait one of my 270x is back from rma and try all the above while I'm putting the card back in , thanks for the replies people :) .. Probably be back asking same again in a week or so tho :(

it should be ok provided you don't disturb the pc or move it ect

my x58 ud5 did it,then I rma'd it and had it repaired, turned out to be a faulty capacitor so they must have an affect on the memory

I doubt hes usong a 32bit os. Purely because im yet to see a 32bit machine use a full 4gb of ram. Usually most peak at 3.2 regardless of the supposed 4gb limit

I have gigabyte x58 mobo , how long is the warranty on them ? As I bought it 4 years ago from ocuk , just incase it does decide to die on me

3 years, tho they fixed mine out of warranty

its more likely a bent pin or too tight cpu cooler,it pays not to press down too hard on the board aswell

Which PSU do you have? I'm wondering if enough current is being supplied to the motherboard.
