Rolf Harris arrested on sexual charges

There's a massive difference between what people categorise as sexual assault which is molestation/touching and sexual assault which is rape, in lay terms as well, if that's how you're trying to categorise it. Calling it rape is an insult to rape victims, tbh. You shouldn't conflate extremely important definitions and legal terms.

I would say you are insulting sexual assault victims actually by minimising their trauma by quibbling over legal semantics.

And it's not three years. It's five years and nine months.
Time served is what I was referring to.

Massive difference between sexual assault and rape.

I think anyone who has been in a nightclub has been sexually assaulted at some point.

I must be the only person never sexually assaulted in a nightclub then.

I have not had some stranger grope me in a dodgy nightclub no, maybe that's what happens at slums like Yates's though I don't know because I don't go to those kind of places.

Lol! Sissy!

:D

I've had some amazing nights in sweaty nightclubs when I was young.

Never viewed it as assault however.

It's not semantics. There's a clear and sizeable difference between touching which is sexual and rape. You have issues if you think it's reasonable to bunch together something which can be, for example, someone giving another a light smack on the bum and someone inserting their penis in another's vagina/anus/mouth.

I'm not bunching them together, the type of sexual assault Rolf was convicted off is what most people would consider rape/molestation.

You don't know what that is, yet.

We know what the minimum is.

Less than 3 years for rape, wow, it seems like year on year the sentences handed out are lesser, presumably due to reduced prison space.

Actually you couldn't be more wrong. They are handing sentences out that would have been given at the time of the incident, as they have to. Had he committed the crimes now he'd be inside a lot longer. Same for Stuart Hall.

Actually I wasn't referring to this case in isolation. And yes I know how the sentencing works, it's stupid.

Not much justice for the victims is it?

And does that mean that if you are a paedo all you have to do is avade capture and prosecution until you are in your 80s and you only get 3 years for good behavior?

No because if you get convicted when you're 80 for something you did today you will get the sentence of today unless the law changes.

This whole operation Yewtree is a disgrace.

Don't you find it a little weird how all these accusations have come straight after the Saville furore.

Right after all this public anger, the police decide to start dragging all the old celebs whose careers are pretty much over before a judge and everyone starts coming forward all of a sudden.

I'm amzed the public can't see through this charade.

Then again, we're talking about a public who believed the Iraq dossier.

A pack of lies, everywhere!

What I want to know is, where are all of the arrests for those who helped facilitate this behaviour? Celebs of their stature must have had help. These scummers are equally as guilty and still out there.

Also, whatever happened to that paedo ring run out of a boy's boarding home and were some top MPs touted as being involved. None of them have been done yet.

They just seem to focus on past it, over the hill celebs. I want to see some MPs in cuffs.

For years people on this forum have taken the mick out of me talking about rape culture, most of them are probably sexual assaulters on here like Rolf who don't think he did much wrong, just goes to show, most people on here who disagreed with me are probably rapists of at the least, rape apologists.

I doubt I'll get many apologies, just more defence of rape culture.

That's what we get for living in a rape culture. There's a signed letter from Rolf admitting he did it and people are still trying to defend him and shame the victims.

I love how people keep appearing out of nowhere to give their stories... Where were they when the investigation into his past was first started? It wouldn't surprise me if most of them were lying and jumping on the bandwagon, not that I'm supporting him or anything...

By writing off his victims so disgustingly you are supporting him and rapists like him.... Well done, you just increased the likelyhood more people will be assaulted.

hurf? What the hell are you on about?

If you wait for a woman to make a physical move, well frankly most of us would still be waiting.

What is the difference between kissing a stranger in a club and sexual assault?

Attraction, if she finds you attractive, it's young passion, the stuff of romances.

If she finds you unattractive it's assault and you risk a slap, punch, knee or ****ging off. (delete as appropriate).

It's a fine line and easy to get wrong, especially after drinking.

I've met many women who are aroused by the thought of being taken roughly - asking politely usually gets you nowhere.

What the **** have night club shenanigans got to do with a guy abusing his daughter's friend for sexual gratification?

You saying Rolf must have asked politely first?

Not at all.

It was more aimed at Hurfdurfs 'rape culture' comments.

Sorry if it derailed the thread.

Yes but Hurfs comments were about the problems in society regarding how many instantly assume the women is making it up - like for some reason the idea that rape is common is alien to them. Sadly the statistics regarding sexual abuse, sexual assault & rape paint a different story - one more in line with the overarching point he was making.

I'm still not sure what drunken advances in a nightclub has to do with the rape culture or the thread in question.
