Metro 2033/Last Light Problems

I'd imagine there is a thread with answers for me but I can't seem to find one.

So, I'm late to the party having just got my first proper rig up and running a few weeks ago and these are two games I have been desperate to play.

First issue is with 2033. I am playing the game and get massive FPS drops (drops 60-70 frames). Is there any way to remedy this?

Second is with Last Light. I can't get the FPS above 30 unless I'm in the menu. I initially had all the settings cranked up but got nowhere. I have lowered pretty much everything, bar the resolution down with no avail. I have read that PhysX causes issues so I have turned that off and still no luck. Help!

I noticed that these are Nvidia games as well and I have an AMD card. Is there any solutions or do these games just generally run like crap with AMD?

Rig is in my sig and I'm gaming at 1080p.

Cheers! :D

Try downloading the proper physx drivers from Nvidia, I'm not sure if it applies to AMD cards, but with my 2 680's I need the seperate Physx drivers to run Last Light smoothly.

Also Metro games are very demanding, a single 280X may not be able to fully cut the mustard, what settings are you playing with?

I've tried it with every combination I can think of. All the benchmarks I have read have said that LL should be above at least 60 fps. LL starts off fine at the very beginning until the first sort of dialogue moment after you wake up but then it's all down hill from there.

I think the Metro games have advanced physx on by default in the menu. Turn this off for use with an AMD card

Edit, sorry never read the op fully

This is with 2 x GTX670

Total Frames: 5134, Total Time: 170.8943 sec
Average Framerate: 30.08
Max. Framerate: 77.88 (Frame: 4516)
Min. Framerate: 14.14 (Frame: 1026)

edit - Tesselation is on Very High. Not sure why it says not supported

You shouldn't be expecting 60fps with a 280 on LL.
Also both games are highly unoptimised. You can't get away from the drops.

Well that's a bit disappointing!

Every bench/review I've read said that the 280X was enough to keep it at at least 60FPS!

Surely it can keep it above 30 fps though?

If you're saying they are highly unoptimised, might just have to call it quits with them.:(

And 1080p all high...

Preset 0
Options: Resolution: 1920 x 1080; DirectX: DirectX 11; Quality: Very High; Texture filtering: AF 16X; Advanced PhysX: Enabled; Tesselation: Not supported; Motion Blur: Normal; SSAA: ON;

Total Frames: 7085, Total Time: 170.8258 sec
Average Framerate: 41.51
Max. Framerate: 87.87 (Frame: 716)
Min. Framerate: 14.25 (Frame: 8)

In short, swap your 280 for 2 x 290 or 2 x 780 and you will be able to play it in all highest settings @ 60fps

Maybe in lowest settings

edit -

Lowest settings (2 x GTX670 remember)

Have you tried other games? Do they all run in line with what you would expect?

Try running the built-in benchmark (I know 2033 has one - I presume LL does too(?)) and compare that directly with online benchmarks.

Every other game runs perfectly! I'll run the benches in the morning and see what comes up.

I have an R9 290x and it doesn't run hugely better.

You just don't have enough GPU grunt.

I'm going to debate this.

I've got a 290 (not an X) and it runs on max everything at 1080p. Although it's worth noting that I amended my config file to get rid of motion blur so this might have made a difference to performance.

The settings used in the bench were the same as what I was using in game and I was getting nowhere near the same results.
