Rolf Harris arrested on sexual charges

I'm still not sure what drunken advances in a nightclub has to do with the rape culture or the thread in question.

I'm unfamiliar with the term 'rape culture' sounds a bit silly to me?

Drunken advances was the only thing I could imagine?

The problem is we are animals.

Male animals take what they like. (especially Alpha ones)

It's only our intelligence, self control and respect for the opposite sex that prevents us from doing so.

hurf? What the hell are you on about?

If you wait for a woman to make a physical move, well frankly most of us would still be waiting.

What is the difference between kissing a stranger in a club and sexual assault?

Attraction, if she finds you attractive, it's young passion, the stuff of romances.

If she finds you unattractive it's assault and you risk a slap, punch, knee or ****ging off. (delete as appropriate).

It's a fine line and easy to get wrong, especially after drinking.

I've met many women who are aroused by the thought of being taken roughly - asking politely usually gets you nowhere.

Rape apologist spotted. Mods?

The difference between assault and kissing is consent and the fact you are unaware of this speaks volumes. I can't believe how far rape culture has come that you do not understand this.

What we have here is someone who thinks that sexual assault is normal, and doesn't understand that its wrong, which is rape culture personified. He will defend rapists because he thinks that's how every man gets girls, and try and then say that it's ok because some girls have rape fantasies.... which is an astounding leap to anyone with half a brain, but not to someone who think rape and assault is normal, like a rape apologist.

I get lots of females very regularly and don't have to assault anyone to do it. You build rapport and establish consent, assaulting people is not necessary and is absolutely disgusting.

from the guy who's just been saying what gives humans the right to hunt animals?

and holy ****, it's rare i find myself in hurfs quarter when he goes on his rape apologist rants, but **** me it's not so much your an apologist it's that you just seem to think you go molest someone and if they don't resist it's all A OK, if they do you move onto the next person

O.o

Indeed, I find it odd that people can't tell the difference between advances (with established consent) & sexual assault.

It's not like it's impossible to come onto a girl without being a sex offerer.

It's only when it's too late and long after years of sexual assault occur to people realise how problematic an element of rape culture is, meanwhile it continues and people shun the idea because they too are part of rape culture. Please try to avoid being so.

Did you find out they want to be taken roughly by you, before or after actually taking them roughly and assaulting them?

Edit: realised you just admitted you didn't find any consent. Don't you think just maybe out of these "many women" there was just one who didn't really want you?

I don't know as I wasn't there, I'm just saying because I'm pretty cautious about fondling someone who doesn't want to be fondled with. Probably why I don't get much action.

I understand you say we are just animals at the end of the day, You should look for the female's sign of interest before your sexual advances and not simply poke them and hope they go along.

and back i go to the hurfs a nutter camp again.

Are there actual details released about what he did to these girls other than "sexually assaulted" them?

I think it was mostly groping. I haven't heard anything about actual rape. I saw one woman on the BBC talking about it and she said his hands were all over her and then he slipped a hand down the front of her panties. She was 15 at the time.

There was a comment on Radio 4 yesterday during the PM programme saying that the actual details mentioned at the trial have not been reported due to the exact nature but that 'penetration' is involved. They didn't go into any more detail.

I'm not 100% sure, but I was under the impression that any penetration with any part of the body (or any object) is classed as assault by penetration. Personally I feel that even if the penis is not used, it is still rape, but I don't think the law sees it that way. It also seems to define things differently when it is for children. For example, does assault by penetration actually become sexual activity with a child because the girl was 15?

There is a huge difference in maximum sentence between the two, for what essentially are the same crime. (The first is 14yrs the second life!)

For the victims under 13 - any assault involving penetration carries a maximum life sentence if convicted.

Clearly these sentences are under current laws, not the ones which were in force in the 70's, but it does seem unduly lenient to only give him 5yrs 9 months.

Well if there was penetration with any of his victims then that's even more sickening. Like you say his sentence seems lenient but when you consider his age and health, it might be enough to see him to the grave.
