Taking euros abroad, advice needed!

You should have an emergency cash fund just in case your cards stop working or get stolen. You should also have a fair amount of cash spending money.

I wouldn't trust local cash machines to not run out: everyone else is going to be relying on them.

When I went to Venice, I took E500 in cash with me (but Venice is expensive).

Yes, that's direct from my bank statement online.

I usually take ~€50 with me, my main debit card, a backup debit card (in case of theft, loss or machine swallows the main) and my credit card.

Credit card is free for purchases but you obviously can't draw cash out on it.

I just use my debit / credit card. Fee's aren't bank breaking, and the security of not having wads and wads of cash around is worth it.

That said, I'll take out a couple hundred quids worth at a time on the debit card, rather than the £50 or so I would usually take out here.

Thanks for the advice guys, I am still considering a pre-paid card, got a bit of time yet so will have a think.

Just out of interest, is the clarity a good card to go for anyway apart from the overseas advantages etc?
I have actually been recently looking into them as although I am not a huge spender I figure that I may as well try and build some kind of credit rating.

I have a debit card with Santander and their 123 Card looks quite good with the cashback incentives etc?

Just as a note, I am not going to be spending thousands and then having to pay it back over X amount of time. I will just be purchasing my shopping, fuel and so on and paying it off straight away.

Clarity isn't particularly good for using in the UK as they don't offer any sort of points/advantages, etc. and the interest rate they gave me was pretty bad (not that that matters if you pay it off straight away). Much better to go for something like the Tesco CC and build up a load of points which could eventually pay for something nice.

I still have my Clarity but haven't used it since travelling. Will definitely take it abroad and keep it up as long as they offer decent rates. Well worth having the thing.

Thanks for the advice guys, I am going to take a small amount in cash and then just take the hit for withdrawals. Will be a lot easier and safer.

Will check out the Tesco CC. Thanks

Just take cash and get a safe in the hotel. ;)

Thats what I do as one time I forgot my pin number, I was so smashed out my head
for days that when I ran out of cash I had forgot my pin number.

Another reason we had our bag stonlen last holiday and all they got was
70 Euros and a camera, if I had a credit/debit in there i would be up **** street without a paddle. :(

Aren't you just as likely to forget the code for the safe?

In fact, aren't you more likely to forget the code for the safe, as you haven't known it very long?
