R9 290 Vapor-X Bad factory OC?

That mem clock should have clocked itself down to 150 Mhz, that is what my 290's sit idle at. I can also see a couple of spikes in the GPU load too which i don't have at idle but you do .. i can't say the two things are connected but i'm certain that mem clock should not be at 1400Mhz while not loaded.

Check the card with the 14.4 drivers, i have major issues with the latest 14.6 and had to roll back due to awful tearing and unplayable games. Clean with DDU then try the 14.4 driver or if you can find a copy the 14.2 which were really stable for me.

Why exactly? Its not as if cards advertising specific clock speeds not working at those speeds is something confined to these cards. Seen the same with gigabyte cards, evga cards, asus cards etc.

...I'd just love to know what they're binned to. As it can't be anything high enough to sway buyers. Not seen a single Vapor overclock well. Also they brag about their custom PCB but then lock you down with voltage control.

Whats the consensus on these VaporX 290s? im just about to trade in my Ref 290 for another non Ref 290, i had a Tri-X previously but it was plagued with the black screen issues so it went back RMA'd, i was looking at buying this VaporX, not sure now what to buy

Can the voltage control not be circumvented with afterburner?

Im running a single monitor only.

Incase the dvi-d cable that came with the monitor was faulty i tryed a dvi-d to hdmi cable instead. Flickering turned to coloured flicker and i got a desktop lockup and blackscreen within 10/15min of this cable being in, I had to hard restart to fix.

Im going to RMA the card and put it down to being unlucky. I like this card and want it to work so im going to ask for a replacement and try again.

Update 1

The R9 290 was found to be faulty after RMA.

Iv asked for a brand new replacement hoping that the first card was just unlucky. fingers crossed it was.

Update 2: 02/12/2014

The replacement has been in for a few months now. Its a top card, I was just unlucky with my first one. they have came down in price a fair bit now. its hard to beat for price/performance ratio.
