Best Value for money Socket LGA 775 Cpu

Hi im looking for the best value for money cpu to buy to put in my 11 year olds ASUS P5B Deluxe, he already has a E6600 in there and was wondering if its worth upgrading it, if so what would u recommend?

Or is it not worth upgrading

A Q6600 could be a nice cheap upgrade to move from 2 to 4 cores

Q9650 would be my choice, probably impossible to find though for reasonable money.

^Yeah that's the only thing, they still sell for high prices on the bay (They often sell for over £120 there- stupidly high!)

Probably the X3320 - X3380. They're the Xeon versions of the Q9xxx series so usually go for a bit less. Compatible with any 775 mobo AFAIK.

I picked up an X3320 (Q9300) for £40 at the start of the year and it's great. Saying that a new £50 Pentium would destroy it!

Sold my last one for about £160 on ebay and then another one on the MM i struggled to get £100... Thats Q9650 BTW..

I would say a Q6600 or Q9550 would be reasonably cheap and i have just built a system for a friends daughter with a Q6600 and she loves it. I would have thought that Q8300/Q8400 would be silly cheap now though.

Worth it in the end though, no fees like eBay so prices are generally lower and less scammers etc.

What Z87 u guys recommend as im looking at a Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC Intel Z87 for 50

That's a great motherboard, you can get one for £50?!

As for the second point, no you would need DDR3 memory as your E6600 will be using DDR2.

Thats a great board, you can look at the new Z97 as well as they take the same CPU's

Q6600 and over clock it. there about £45

but a new set up would be the way foreword
