The Ultimate Hero of Sport

Roger Feder, nobody has dominated sport like this guy and a very nice guy altogether, totally in a different league, bit like Ronnie in Snooker but his personality lets him down big time.

Seve Ballesteros as he was such a decent guy.

Sometime in the 90's I was at the Dunhill Masters at Woburn and down on the practice area watching the pro's warm up. Nick Faldo, and Fanny, walked on, completely ignored everyone there and walked right down to the far end away from the spectators. That's fair enough as he obviously wanted to get on with his practicing etc.

Seve, on the other hand, walked on and then spent 30 mins or so chatting to the crowd, signing autographs and posing for pictures. I liked him.

I don't do heroes but Seve comes closest to one for me. Him and Eric Cantona.

Probably Tony Hawk, not because he was my favorite skater but for being such an ambassador for skating over so many year and I dis love the whole bones brigade days. Or may be Jeremy Jones for his free ride snowboarding. I'm not fussed by team sports or athletics or anything really.

Oh wait, darts isn't a sport...

I think the word 'hero' is meaningless if it can be applied to sports-people. :p

Shavarsh Karapetyan?

Personally I'd probably have Emil Zatopek or perhaps Fanny Blankers-Koen. I'm not sure that hero is quite the correct description but there's a definite admiration and respect there. Other honourable mentions would be folks like Sir Steve Redgrave, Michael Johnson and Ed Moses.
